Alarm Writeup for 4th Gen?

Does anybody know or have a write up on how/where to install an aftermarket alarm for a 4th gen max?

Most install shops have access to a database and can print out a cheat sheet for you. You just have to be real nice to get them to do it. Some places will just try to scare you into letting them install it for $200, but alarms are real easy. The only real trick in a 4th gen. is that you have to run wires into the drivers door for the locks, and solder them right at the switch. All the other wires for constant, ignition and start are at the harness by the steering column, and the door and trunk trigger are in the kickpanel area.

I would be happy if I could get it for $200!
Such is not the case. Maybe I'll ask around Best Buy or somewhere.

Yeah, alarms aren't that hard to install...it's just running and tapping all the wires. Once you know all the wire colors/codes in your car, the rest is easy. I believe if you buy a DEI alarm, they come with good instructions in installing it.

If you have a fax handy I can send you the printouts. Just email me the year of the car and your fax number.....MyPearlTPI@aol.com

do you have to take apart the dash to install the leds and other switches ? Where do you hide the brain of the alarm? Any special places?

Yeah, you have to take the dash apart, but it is very easy. There is also plenty of room to put the brain of the alarm under the factory radio location. Most shops put them Behind the drivers side knee panel, but that makes it easy for a thief to cut the wires. I also have my backup battery hidden there. Plenty of room.

cool, doing my own alarm install is looking more and more feasible.

Is remote start a matter of tapping wires as well?
