Removing trunk hinges in trunk to make room for sub box......????

I have a Q-Logic box with 2 12's in my trunk, and the damn box doesn't slide all the way back to the back of the rear seat because of the two bars for the trunk lid. I'm wondering what the effects will be if I cut the two bars. Any other ideas?

If you cut the bars be sure to prop up the trunk or it will drop like a large piece of granite. YOu can replace the bars with gas struts for about $10-15 each at any auto parts store. Just check the open and closed lengths to verify that it will work where you plan to mount it. Other option is a single or pair of linear actuators.

Thanks a lot man. Do you know how hard is it to install the struts? What exactly are actuators?

I have a 5th gen and was wondering the same thing. I looked at the trunk and couldn't see a place to mount the gas struts. I really want to eliminate the torsion bars so I can mount an A-periodic box to the underside of the package shelf. Anyone with a 5th gen do this and how were the results? Where did you install the struts at?

Here

This is Matt93se's car. At the bottom of the page it shows where to mount the gas struts.

I did a simple custom install in my 4th gen. There were already two mounting points at the bottom front of the trunk near the shock towers. Actually I think at the rear side of the shock towers. A simple piece of steel with a hole large enough for a 5 or 6 mm screw. That is where I mounted the bottom of the strut. For the top of the strut I re-drilled and tapped one of the holes in the trunk lid support.
