No you don't. You need GOOD high end speakers that can keep up, not 18 mids and highs that will sound like ****.

A good high end 3 way set with proper power will do just fine. Id really suggest giberglassing those door pods at least. They kinda look like poo IMO.

They're trying to let you know that by going with one good active 3-way set, you'd be spending less time and money rather than doing 18 mediocre sets.

Agreed.

Plus, the wiring/troubleshooting/fabrication for all that is a nightmare.

as much as i agree on the quality thing its not uncommon for spl vehicles to focus less on soundstaging. in this sq crazed time its important to remember that not everybody has the same goals...

buuut 18 of anything is crazy overkill and will definitely cost more than some thirsty components on good power.

I honestly think he's going more for the "Wow" factor than the SQ thing

Its not just that...arrays of speakers like that door panel suffer from massive cancellation. Essentially, the center to center spacing determines where the cancellation begins.

For example, a 10 inch spacing would equate to a ~1300hz roll off. If he has the tweeters coming in at lets say 3khz, there is a HUGE gap in the telephone band. Good bye vocals
