cost of installation, Im i getting ripped off?
Whats up every1. Well i am in the process of changing out the dreaded bose system and i went to car toys a car audio place where i live and they say its going to cost about $350-400 to install everything. I was like WTF why is it so expensive. Im being told that is because they have to take out and replace all the wires and the cost of putting in all the speakers. This is the system im going to have put in. Kenwood dpx 6020 head unit, 2 pair on infinity kappas 63.5 "to go all around" and a MTX thunder 404 amp. Does this seem to expensive to have this done? i would appreciate all the info you can give. I also dont know how to do the install myself thats why im getting it done.

LOL i just got back from GoodGuys... i just wanted to see the deck i am getting. Well, i told the guy that I had bose and he said that it's going to cost more because they have to rewire everything....
yeah whatever, just install the damn thing yourself. you'll save hella $$ and get experience.
I recommend you talk to Don (Pearl96Max) ... he's an audio dealer and has great prices on the best decks.

I was thinking $35 - $50 per item on a flat rate scale. There is definitely no custom work being done. Maybe $50 more for comletely removing the bose system.
But you can do it all yourself for almost nothing if you have a few tools and patience. They may have included power wire, fuseing, interconnects, etc. in their charges and may have gone on the high side for the estimate.

could i use the same wires? the infinity speakers that i have baught come with a cross over for each speaker. I havent done this kind of work before so im kinda hesitant on doing it. Also is there an adapter you can use for the head unit or will i have to hardwire it since i have the bose head?

This is total BS. You can use the existing wiring, you just have to connect the speaker wire before it goes into the Bose Amp. Tell those guys to lay off the pipe, and stop trying to con you out of your hard earned money. A 4 channel amp install should be no problem, and if it is going into the trunk, they should not charge you to rewire the rear speakers, and I just finished running the new speaker wire into the front doors of my car, and it is so easy. You may want to see if anyone will do it on the side for you. I would probably only charge you $150 + parts to do it at my house, if you were around my way.

Tapout
Just do what he said. For front spkrs, you can tap into the wires before the bose amp. Since you are running a 4-channel amp and aftermarket deck. Just loop the spkr wires at the harness (metra part number 7550 radio harness) What I mean by that, is run your rear spkrs into your front. So you have the white spkr wires connecting to the green spkr wires in the harness and then grey and purple go together. You just tape off the spkrs outputs from the radio b/c you are not using the radio's amp. Then when you are hooking up the spkrs to the amp. Output from the amp to the front spkrs, you just hook it up to the wires that were going to the rear spkrs from the factory. This saves you time in running spkr wire. Then to hook up the rear spkrs from the amp, just run spkr wires directly from the amp to the spkr itself
By the way, that price is too high for just the labor of installation.

But no competent installler would use existing wires. Unless that was how the shop they work in want them to do things. If they do use the existing wires they must first ensure that there are no wire problems. Of course that is if you get the one installer in the state who is competent.

So it should only cost about $35-45 per pair of speakers. Well i guess i better go to circuit city to get a quote from them. Then i should be able to have all my stuff installed by mid next month. Im also going to get an infinity basslink. Has any1 got the word if it is good or not?

Have you ever thought of doing it yourself. Go to Barnes & Nobles or any bookstore. Buy The Car Stereo Cookbook. It really isn't that hard if you have the time that is. I, as a severe novice, paid 200 just for a box for my 3 12's. Later to find out the MDF would have been $20 a sheet,(1 sheet for the box). Shops charge you for what they know. Unfortunatly, the consumer is gambling with the shop they choose. Even at Circuit City, Best Buy,etc.... The price they quoted you is definitly too high. If you do decide to DIY. The org has many competent and knowledgable people onboard JIC you need any help. In either case, good luck When you're done, post some pic's. Everyone loves pic's.
