i might buy a speaker bracket for my 91 to get 6.5's up front. What would be the best to buy components or just regular speakers. (ex. Infinity Ref) I probably will just run them off my Alpine hu for now so I was wondering if the components are worth buying.

 

I hooked up a set of Infinity Kappas in a fellow org member's 98 maxima. They were only hooked up to the deck and sounded pretty good. I have also installed JL 6.5s in a max and Boston Acoustic ProSeries(mine) in 4th gens also. Both of those sounded great, but had an amp on them. Going from experience, the Kappas might be the way for you to go. The other two may sound good also. Secret is to look for a good sounding speaker with a high sensitivity.

 

Go with the infinity kappas (63.5i), i as well as 3 other buddys have them, I have all four in my 92 max se with a rockford power 551x amp and it is the sound is flawless ; im sold on infinity they are suberb for clarity and bass response. If you have a 3rd gen you can get some 6.5 speaker pod from james92se for about $35 i just got mine today and the work perfect

 

Also you can get the infinities on ebay for about $95/ pair on ebay which is a great deal considering there about $250 in stores

 

Are you talking about regular coaxils? or components? Kappas are alright for coaxils, but if your talking about componets. Brands like Diamond Audio S600, Boston Acoustics Pro series, Focal Utopias, Adire Kodas , CDT, ect... will blow most brands out of the water.

Pick em up from were? Personally I have the Bostom Pro 6.5 and Bostom Rally series for the rear. I got a JL 300.4 amp for them, but I think Im underpowering them. The Pros up front can handle upward to 400rms

 

boston acoustics got my vote. i got their coaxils and they sound great

 

This really depends on the amount of money you want to spend and how much you want to spend on an amp down the road to power them.

If you are happy with decent sound, deck power and some Infinity coaxials will probably serve you fine. If you want more or think you will fairly soon, buy some good components and something to push them with. Components running off of deck power don't come anywhere near there potential.

I know several 4th gen guys with the Diamond Audio Hex components and they couldn't be happier. They also spent a lot of money on them, too.

I have Diamond Audio Coaxials and I am very happy with the sound. I will go with some components eventually, because the staging isn't very good (IMO) with my left leg blocking the tweeter.

If you buy 6.5 pods, get them from James92SE -- the quality is outstanding and they fit like a glove! I have pics of them on my website.

 

This all depends on how much power ur sending to them , because the most expensive, speaker will sound like sheit if they don't get enough power or get to much power. Basically your amp should match your speaker 's rms or be real close

 

oh its just an expression. check out thezeb.com BA are great speakers, but for $149 the cdts are great!. they handle i think 100 rms but dont quote me.

 

I agree it all depends on your budget. Like I have said before, Infinity seems to be a very popular brand for Max owners, when you spend more, you get more.

Hey, I am also looking for some speakers and amp for my setup. I have the Pioneer DEH-750MP (not installed yet), but no speakers or amp. I have found good prices on the Infinity KAPPA 63.5I (rear?), and the Infinity Reference 6000cs (front). How is the sound with these? Also, I'd need an amp with these. What do you suggest? I've heard some say you only need a 2-channel amp to power the front speakers, and some say you need a 4 channel amp for all speakers. Thanks, and I don't mean to steal your thread, Andy21.

 

I just installed alpines type r components in the back and infinity kappas 62.5 2 ways for the front. Amped them to a soundstream rubicon 600w 4ch amp. The alpines kick in the midbass really well and the clarity of the kappas and the alpine tweeters are pretty nice. They're pretty sharp so I turn down the treble and kicked up the bass and mid treb. Sounds perfect now.

Diamond audio s600s are probably too expensive for me. i was gonna get the m6 components but it didn't fit my budget. These sound fine.

 

I would definitely reccomend the Infinity Kappa 63.5i over the Reference Series. I have the kappas and the power and clarity are more noticeable than the Reference series I've had. If you can put the Kappas all around it would sound excellent.

 

I had kappa Coax. all around in my last car. My only problem with them is they are almost TOO clear. The highs sound a little bit tinny, especially when you crank it. I have been looknig at a pair of 6.5 Eclipse components for the front, and 5.25 Coax. in the rear. With the silk tweeter they are not only VERY clear, but you can turn them up without the highs getting piercing like the kappas can get

Any one have experience with these in a Max or I30?

 

Yes, Ive done quite a few sets of the SC8362s in Maxs as well as the SE8363 coaxs in the rear, no complaints and sounded great. Also they were paired up with an Eclipse PA5422, running from an Eclipse CD8443 in one case.

I'm not sure about the 4th gens, but the third gen takes 6.75"... You should be good with the 6.5". Do you have Bose?

 

I have the non-bose, but I think I am going to go with the CDT CL-61a for the front and the CDT CL-6X for the rear.

 

I have alpine S-170a all around and they sound great! Alpine amp running 40watts rms to each speaker which happens to be there max Rms capablities.

 

this setup should sound great. i installed mine but dont have the amp hooked up to the fronts yet. rears are running off the headunit and they sound good and i only paid $45 for them.

 

If you can afford it, I would go with MB Quart QSD's.

 

Im looking for some 6.5 componets, I was listening to MB Quarts at Tweeter and I liked how they sound, how do they compare to the CDT CL-61a componets?

 

i have never heard the mbs but from what i read they are more harsh, the cdt are more "natural". i love my cdts especially for the price.

 

go for the cdt cl-61a's from thezeb.com. infinity and brands with metal or titanium dome tweeters tend to sound harsh so most people prefer silk tweeters for a more relaxed sound
