Piece of crap BOSE givin me trouble!

does anyone know anything about the BOSE cd on my '96 se acting up? there's no cd in there, but i'll have it on radio and the cd just pops on and doesn't read, then says "cd err". it's driving me nuts and it won't stop. any help would keep me from putting my fist through my console. thanks.

bose radios are known for having problems, you're best bet is to search on the for-sale forums here and on ebay for a new (used) bose radio. or if you dont want a stock radio you could get a new headunit but beware, the bose wont sound as good, as the speakers are only designed to run off its own headunit. i have a sony xplod 2002 headunit with my bose speakers and i think they sound pretty good especially with the high-pass filter on, but on certain songs sometimes there is some distortion. but i used to have an older pioneer radio in and the bose sounded absolutely horrible. if you got some money to spend rip out the bose and throw in some component speakers, i was thinking about doing that myself and going with infinity's all around....

either buy a new hu. you find good ones for around $120 on-line (pioneer). or buy another bose head unit from the classified. there's always members that sell their bose headunits after they replaced it with a new one.
the prices range from $50 -$100 (BOSE)

The same thing happened to me and after checking in the Stereo forum on this site it apparently happens to a lot of these Bose systems. When mine finally quit working completely I went with the aftermarket unit- I kept the bose speakers and it sounds really close to what the factory unit did, no complaints at all.(except the extra $50 for the adapter that has to go to the amplified bose speakers.)

My experience was quite the contrary...I replaced the BOSE HU (which wasn't playing tapes or CDs) with an Alpine CDA-9807 ($200), and I noticed a considerable improvement in the sound quality. I recommend using the PAC high-to-low OEM converter.
