jmax is right....the specs from the company dont mean much....look at any audio mag that bench tests amps...they usually note when the specs are far from what is published....damping factor is nice to know...but then again it is usually measured at 1KHz which is meaningless for bass..i dunno this thread is skewing on all sorts of tangents

sorry i should've posted "hey I'm a newb ...buying my first amp...I dont know the difference between 0.1 and 0.005 THD"....
and maybe then I would've found your so called lessons more comforting..

I understand the whole "human hearing" .....but
the fact the product I purchased has great specs and I have heard it in person is rewarding-

How about instead of endlessly discussing this bs-
just answer my original post or help with recommendations for components?

Well, you posted as if you were looking to buy but wanted to know if the amp merited being bought. I posted the car amps i have owned to show I have a little bit of experience in this field. To be honest I have been listening to music critically sinse at least 1981, actually earier but I don't remember the date.

If you want to know how to judge what you put in your car I suggest reading this, http://www.davidnavone.com/detail.as...0BACK%20ISSUES

It is an invaluable resourse to people who don't have a EE or Physics degree.

I admit to going out of the way to purchase things that aren't in every car and every store. But I also like for the items I purchase to be of a high quality, even if it is mostly aesthetic qualities. Sound and quality come first when I choose something to go in my car. Then comes price and appearance. There are some things that I would not buy regardless of how they sound based solely on the looks. But there is nothing that I would buy just for it's appearance. A good example is Adire Audio. They look plain jane but the sound is very accurate and the price is considerably below others that don't sound as good.

so i basically have to wait a while to change the
front components (right now RF 5.25 X's- not that good) off my Sounstream SA120- rear doors are stock- just ordered Arc Kar 6.5's for rear fill

Reasons I'm considering Rainbows is because Arc
distributes them - so maybe a good match....my cousin has them in his 3series and i was impressed...

good thing with any of DA's- they're crossovers allow you to run the rears along with the components (more versatile) so channel 3/4 of the Arc can run the sub- run everything off the same amp...options

Odd, my first response disapeared. Not the first time, probably won't be the last.

I was using Diamond, 6.5, 5.25 and silk tweet. But I am upgrading, have been for about 18 months now. Using Adire Koda mids now and Accuton C23 tweets. The mids sound better, more accurate in the vocals and more efficient in the midbass. The accuton tweets are a big step up in SQ, but are a lot more difficult to mount than the tiny silk tweets. Also you would need to be able to build a custom crossover or tune an active crossover.

Actually only on paper. Unless you consider first order high pass. I have only done that for tweeter protection. The real deal is more of a pain in the **** because mathmatically correct doesn't always equate to acoustically correct. And there is a big issue of phase. First order is 90 degrees out of phase, second order 180, third 270, etc. So there is a lot more to it than picking the correct frequency.
