I had Bose in my car before I replaced everything. Check out THIS thread. I also have pics on my home page.

Hope this helps some.

Make sure to get 6 3/4" speakers, NOT 6 1/2s.

Depending on your new speaker depth, you may have to get some spacers or make spacers out of the stock speakers. I had to because my magnets were to big.

I thought the 5th gen took the 6 1/2 not the 6 3/4 ( is that the 6X9)

no amp just the stock HU. Should I get an amp? or is just the stock HU ok? How much of a difference will I hear with just decent speakers with the stock HU?

No, it is 6 3/4"- just a little bit bigger than 6 1/2"s. Most speakers these days come with adapters to fill in the extra gap anyhow.

alot but buy an aftermarket h/u so you can get a little more power and alot more tweaking for the mids/highs. its worth it.

I want to keep the stock head unit because i don't want my parents to find out that I spent money.... that's why i'm just looking for speakers... any advice on good speakers around $50-80 a pair?

just lie to them and say you got it real cheap from a friend. and then get a new h/u and speakers and when/if your parents are in your car adjust the settings so the speakers dont sound as good and they wont know you got new speakers put in. i just put about 1k into my car and all my parents know is that i got a $300 h/u. and they think that is a ridiculas amout for just a "radio".

Crutchfieldstates that 6.5" speakers are direct replacements for the factory versions. You can also check my webpage for install pics/directions.
Good luck.

You won't hear that much of a difference with just aftermarket speakers. However if you hook them up to an amp that's a diff. story.

If you plan to keep your stock HU I would suggest getting the following system or similar

Dave Navone Line OUt Converter N7V ($37)
- this gives your HU rca outs so you can connect the outgoing signal from your HU to your amp.

Us Acoustics Amps are really good for the money. You can probably find a usx 2080 amp (80x2 4ohms) ($50 - $80 used)

DEI Viper 650.2 comps @ sounddomain.com ($139.95) (these speakers got very good reviews and can hold its own vs. more expensive speakers)

KnuKonceptz 4Ga Amp Install kit on ebay ($28)

Second skin, or brown bread sound dampener if you have some extra cash.

hope this helps.

You could also check out my home page. I managed to shoe horn in some 7" drivers. It was a tight fit, but they sound really nice! I don't have pics of them mounted back on the door, but they are there now without any issues. I also replaced my tweeters with some Morel drivers and you can see those too.
