I finally got my custom radar detector mount

This radar detector mount mounts from the post on the rear view mirror and attaches to the piece that would normally hold the suction cups. Just remove the suction cups and mount it from behind like I did. I'm trying to get some kind of group deal going with the maker of this mount. It technically fits the Escort 8500. I have the Bel 980 and fits fine, I just used 2 out of the 3 mounting screws to mount it. Other than that, it fits like a glove.

once I get some info on a GD I'll post it.

check out the pics....

No, but I've seen them around. I've been out of the car audio business for about a year.

hey dave-I just dont understand why ppl mount their radar detectors up there?? In NY i've noticed alot more false signals going off with the detector mounted up that high.

I found that velcroing it to the top of the clock yields best results/least false signals but that mount is cool tho

I think that when it is up higher it has a greater range. I would rather have a few false signals than have it miss a real one.

agreed aside from that, down low is where the wipers start to affect it.

up high but below the tint line is the best overall spot. Down low is probably killing your rear signal as well

I'm currently talking to a plastics manufacter down in San Diego to make these. Hopefully I can make them in certain sizes to fit all Maxima gens.

Thanks guys....and gals.

No, this one only fits the 5th gen mirror. The 4th gen is different and won't fit.

If you have a rear view mirror that is mounted only to your windshield and the post is round, it will fit.

Curious, on how does the detector mount to the bracket? Is it easily removable or you have to use screws?

It does not fit a 4th gen....

there is an insert at the bottom of the mount that the radar mount slides into and screws down. Take a closer look at the pic you can pretty much figure out how it is put together

If I had a 4th gen near me I could check it out and make something different in the future. I want to test out the one for the 5th gens first.

Dave,

Still haven't heard from your man with the custom radar mount after two emails (though he may be on vacation, etc), if you happen to speak with him please tell him to contact me! (He can PM me via the board here or hit me with a PM and I'll give my email address).

Thanks again, I appreciate it!
