Subwoofer with a Bose?

What is a good subwoofer and amp setup to compliment the Bose system in a 97. I am all about SQ not SPL. I am not totally against a contained unit, but it would have to be really good. Also where would I get my signal from, there are alot of different opinions on here and I want it done right. Thanks

PAC AOEM-NIS2 adapter. Completely plug and play - the best signal you can get from bose. Takes it right after the head unit, before it reaches the bose amp. The FAQ should have a link to buy it.

It would all really depend on what all you want and how much you want to spend.

An easily attained SQ sub is the Infinity Perfect - just find a decent quality amp with the RMS power matched to it.

crutchfield sells a converter that you can hook up to your speaker outputs.. this converts it back to signal, wich you can then plug into your external amp.. i've done many of these jobs and it sounds pretty good.. out of all the systems i had i currently have 1L7 12in kicker. phew thats one hell of a speaker.. i went from two twelve inck kenwood excelon speakers which also kicked a$$ to the one 12.. and let me tell you the bass is off the heezy..its being played by a 1000bd rockford fosgate amp 2 channel.. and a 7995 alpine hu.. with bass control..i had to have dynomat added to keep the roof on..my brother is currently using my kenwoods with his factory 96 max bose system..sounds just as good..not better, just as good...

how much you wanna spend? that's the real question.

at any rate, avoid fosgate at all costs. overpriced junk. JL or infinity will give you the best sq for your money, but if you can afford em anything made by Adire will be better. the Brahmas are near unbeatable and get great sq and insane spl if you can power em. tempests are the next down the line and still awesome. you would probably do ok witht eh shivas, but still they're all a but pricey. just get a pair of JL 12w3s or a 13w7 and you will blow your friends away. infinity's kappa perfect 12.1 is oe of the most accurate subs i have heard in its price range as well. i guarantee you will be happy with any of those choices.

do your shopping on ebay and every component is almost exactly 1/2 the price of retail. good luck with your system

I don't argue that your fosgates have won you trophies, but what were you up against, what did you have, and how much did you spend?

kicker solo baric L7s are nice subs indeed. no arguments here(IMO kicker makes the UGLIEST stuff i have ever seen though, just a personal opinion though. many people like the look). but at around $100 a pop, the infinity perfect 12.1 is some great sq for your buck.

of course, the only real awy for you to decide is for you to hear them. listen to everything before you buy it. what sounds good to you might sound bad to some one else.

alright i'll accept that answer, because when it comes down to it. its what your personally looking for.. because in the audio world what it comes down to is how does it sound to you.. i have installed many, many stereos, my personal system is worth well over 5 g's and trust me it didn't happen over night.. im currently running infinity kappa perfect 652
for my mid and highs and they sound wonderful.. but for bass, and i mean real bass they just cant hang.. i also know a few who are running pioneer and for the money they are one heck of a speaker. and when it comes to competition everybody has there own brand to back. but in that world its not the brand its the spl your putting out. so i guess what that means is both our answers are correct.

Yea pioneers are great speakers for the price, but for just a few bucks more go with alpines. as for the infinitys, the thing that i like so much about infinity speakers is that they are not in any designed for deep, low bass. they are, as they are labeled, are midrange speakers, which were designed to work only with a subwoofer to achieve the perfect balance of sounds for the sound stage. you will notice that the lower reference models and most multielement speakers have a lower frequency response(45hz-xkhz) since they are designed for the more average consumer who usually does not add a subwoofer. If you go up the line you will notice that the frequency responce gets higher i.e the kappa perfect 6.1 is (75hz-23khz). using a narrower frequency response results in more accurate reproduction of specific sounds(more clarits) in the mids and highs. no real bass there, but these speakers are designed specifically to be used with a very accurate subwoofer(ideal is the kappa perfect X.1). If you use infinity speakers alone without a fairly accurate subwoofer, you are likely to be disappointed with the output of your system, but if you ahve your sound stage set up correctly and use the proper components you will have some beautiful audio. i know this from experience because my friend has an all-infinity system i helped him build and if you switch off the sub amp, you will hardly hear any bass. The approach infinity is going for here is the same that is used in home audio systems that every component is designed to fill in a specific range of sounds that accomplish perfection as a whole only(have you ever taken a good 5.1 home theatre and just shut the subwoofer off? you will see what i mean ). aaw hell, i'm just rambling on now, but the basic point i am making here is:
if you don't plan to use a subwoofer, pioneers are perfect since they have a wider freq response and can produce deeper bass, but at the cost of being a more "muddy" sound and losing accuracy. these are more aimed at the average consumer who doesnt plan to use external amplification or get a subwoofer.
Another note about the infinity system - this is NOT a system designed to destroy some concrete or make your neighbors three houses down feel the noise. it is solely for enjoying music at its peak precision and quality, which is to me much more enjoyable. and an infinity setup liek that can be done for about 1/2 the price of a JL system and 1/3 the price of a focal or mb quart system.

jsut my .02 again tell me if i just go on too much eh?
