hooking up 2 amps the correct way?
hooking up 2 amps the correct way?
I just purchased JL audio 300/4 and 500/1..my question is do I need both a distributor block and a capacitor or do they do 2 different functions (also any recommendations on blocks and capacitors would be greatly appreciated)..I know the block will sparate to 2 amps, but was not sure if the capacitor could work the same way..
Also, I am wiring the ground separate but how should the remote work, can it go from the 500/1 and then to the 300/4 or is that an incorrect way..
Thanks in advance..

a distribution block is not the same. you will need one. basically one one of them will do. i hope your using no less than 4 gauge wiring for the 2 amps.
if you mean remote wire you can plug the rcas of 1 amp into the h/u and then plug rcas into the 500/1 then into the 300/4. and just send one remote wire.

see. im not 100% positive on what to do with the remote wire because i was looking into hooking up a 2nd amp but never did as of yet. im sure otherws with 2 amps will chime in. i would also upgrade the big 3 with 4 gauge wire. even some 2 gauge wire wouldnt hurt.
I currently have two amps installed in my car, one 2 channel and a 4 channel. I ran the remote wire from the front of the car, back to the 4 channel and took a lead from the 4 channel to the 2 channel amp. Was pretty simple and they both turn on and off flawlesssly.
the 500/1 might have a signal-sensing turn on. i'm not sure.. i know that the 250/1 does. if the 500/1 does, you can just hook up the rca's to it and when it gets a signal from the HU, it'll turn on. the 300/4 doesn't have it, so you'd have to run the remote wire to that one.
the 500/1 does have signal sensing turn on, but the 300/4 does not. So, if you're running RCAs into the 500/1, you could then run a short wire from the 500/1 to the 300/4 for remote (The port for the turn on in the 500 is in and out). I actually put in my 300/4 first, so I have a remote wire running from the back of the HU to the trunk, no biggie. Then I just spliced another wire in to run to the 500/1 bypassing and disabling the signal sensing. No need for a relay.
As for a distribution block, I'm running a stinger block. It's pretty nice. you run your power and ground into one side of the block, and then you have 4 pairs (power and ground) outgoing to your amps (of which I only use 2). You don't NEED a cap, but depending on what you're playing, you'll probably get dimming lights. The capacitor will help with the dimming. I've seen some capacitors that have built in distribution blocks, but I can't vouch for any of them, since I don't have a cap.
