I was listening to XM in an escalade, the sound quality was great, i can hear the difference between that and regular radio. Also, its uncensored, which mean no gaps in your songs every time the artist decides to yelp out a curse word (damn i hate that blanks in my songs).

I've had XM in my car for way over a year now, its excelent, I was forced into XM because I'm a Alpine HU fanatic and won't buy anything else. I installed Sirrus in my boss' NSX at work and it did sound at that particular time like they had better dance music on Sirrus than XM does. I find that The System plays some good trance stuff, but they lack live mixes n stuff alike. BPM plays good dance/party music but play alot of old music. I got a Delphi Ski Fi at work in my tool box ( Acura mechanic) and I listen to eighter Raw 66 (Rap.HHop, all uncessored) or most of the time The System. I wish they had more trace channels, but thats why I got a MP3 Alpine changer in the trunk I got the family plan due to 2 diff receivers, I pay something like 14.95 a month for both.

Well, I wanted to, until I found out that Sirius will be getting bought out by XM next year (early months), so I decided it'd be smarter to get in with XM....

your shiitng me right??? ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IS there an article i can get this from? I need to show some friends...

It was first announced by Rick Garland, VP of Delphi that while Sirius will continue to operate as its own unit, the purchase should occur sometime in early 2005, and eventually lead to Sirius becoming a part of XM Radio satellite network....we'll see how FCC responds to that. It was actually announced at SEMA last year (almost a year ago), so not sure where it was published, but search around the net, if there is anything about Garland's talks.

Haha, so we at SEMA didn't hear this with our own ears. Hey guys, do me a favor, unless you were there, don't say it isn't so. Me, and thousand other people heard this statement, so before you tell me its "totally false statement" you should have heard the talks at SEMA.
Thanks
Alex

Oh, and I don't claim its the truth or it isn't, all I am passing along is the information I and many others heard at SEMA.

Meaning, I have no idea if XM will or won't do that, or what is happenning, however, I am passing along information heard first hand, not rumors, as others claim. What comes out of it is to be seen.
Thanks
Alex

I think both XM and Sirius are great. As to which one is best, I don't think there is a clear winner. If XM buys Sirius, I hope they continue to bring us a fantastic service. The government wouldn't let Dish and DirecTV merge so it's doubtful that they would let XM would be allowed to have a monopoly as well.

FYI- Just got Sirius in my car, got the brand new Sportster at best buy and it works perfect, excellent programming and customer service. Sirius is the clear winner when it comes to randomly playing favorites that you wanna hear, as XM plays too many obscure songs that u find urself saying WTF is this? Also a great web site to request songs and chat about the service, if you have any questions. I would recommend SIRIUS to ANYBODY.

Sirius operates on satellites and a buffer system. 30 second buffer I believe. That way you don't lose signal under bridges etc. Home/portable receivers usually have a horrible time getting reception in the city. Hardware is bulky and awkward looking at best. Programming is pretty good but to each his own.

XM operates on satellites and a terrestrial repeater network. Reception is superior to Sirius especially in the city w/tall buildings. Hardware is smaller and nicer looking.

Sirius has better prospects in the future. They will be the 1st to roll out video at an affordable price for service and hardware. It was suppose to be late this year but who knows.

you still lose signal under parking decks, bridges, etc.. with both services pretty equally.. xm is better in some spots with that, but it's not great..

Programming is pretty good but to each his own.
programming, imo, is going downhill w/ sirius. Martha Stewart channel, Cosmo channel.. a whole channel devoted to elvis, the rolling stones, and jimmy buffet?? there's a limited amount of channels, and some recent decisions by sirius have, imo, sucked a**

They are both good, and either are enjoyable. Sirius has a lot of advantages, but so does XM. Product wise, XM is far superior in their plug and play, and portable dept. XM is in great home receivers, and both are available in most good head units. I have XM, but I have had it since 2003, and I love it. Sirius is also good, and some of the programming differences are the key to what you want. Do your research, and buy the one that fits your needs.

Sirius has an extensive network of terrestrial repeaters, just like XM.

Sirius has 3 satellites that orbit in a figure-8 pattern, keeping 2 of them over north america at all times.

XM has two satellites (named Rock & Roll) in geostationary orbit over the equator.

I was going to recommend Sirius for this reason....online access. A virus killed all the mp3 files I had on my computer, I don't know a safe site to start dowloading again for free, so I listen to sirius on it and love it. Also I just found out my work (a high school) hasn't yet blocked the site, so I can log on and listen during planning. Love it!

didn't catch Stern today and prolly won't get to much, but if it's your thing thats another reason to go sirius....

Its all about Stern!!!

I don't care about how many satellites, I just care about Howard.

My Sirius works great, the sound is great except for the FM modulator, I'm working on my soldering skills before I try to hard wire an aux cable.

On Sunday 1/8/06 I spent 3 hours calling tring to find a home kit for my Sirius Starmate Replay. I had to drive 150 miles to get one. But I got it and I got to here Howard's first day.

i personally drive a 5th gen, my dads got the 6th gen with xm... i love it... opie and anthony + ron and fez are hilarious... dont listen to much else other than that... but if your a fan of comedy talk radio xm definetely ... howard stern is just a hack these days and talking about naked women = pointess without the visual lol... from the little music i listen to on there i enjoy it also... though im a hip hop type of person but hey my dad loves it for all the classic rock and top hits of different eras and such.

man, i want to get xm because they have a baseball channel, but aside from that, there just seem to be too many drawbacks with xm when compared to sirius's programming

but here's the thing. if i want to get sirius, does anyone know if 6th gens are wired to connect through the glovebox?
