CDT CL-r1a and CL-6x

Hi guys,

I am going to get CDT CL-6x for the rear and CL-61a components for the front. I have an Alpine 9805 HU. At this time I am not going to use an Amp. Where woud you sugest to put xovers? Any thoughts on how to correctly wire the fronts and how to properly install the tweeters.

Thanks a lot.

Kick panels are the ideal location if the crossover size allows it.....unfortunatly I have mine wrapped in plastic and zipped tied in my doors for the moment

No, I don't have Bose. The tweeters are silk. Check www.thezeb.com. The have cl61's for $149.99 (for the front) and cl6x for $44.99 for the rear. I hope I am making the right choice (for the money I want to spend).

Good morning Slickrick,

Thanks for your feedback. As far as install, the rear speakers should be no problem, but the fronts... How did you wire the crossovers? It seems like I need to cut the wires from the HU and feed one end to the xover and another side of it would be connected to the front speaker and tweeter. Am I right?

Do these speakers fit in place or I will need to do any kind of modifications? Did you use dynomant in the doors?

Thanks again.

well heres what i did. i also put in a pioner h/u but i dont thik it should be any diferent. i ran new speaker wire from the mid and tweeter to the xover, then ran the xover wire into the h/u wire. i drilled into the door to get the mids wire into the car and put the xover in the kick panel right below where the tweeter is. you just drop the teeeter wire down a hole and it hits the kick panel. for the woofer you can either use the ring that came wit hthe stock speakers(i did not) or you can buy a 1" spacer kit from BB, CC. (i did) or you can make a custom 3/4 mdf plate for them. any of those are fine. i did not dynamat the doors because of time constraints but i think this summer i will do my entire car. the door doesnt rattle at all. any more questions feel free toask, this post might be confusing.

...Sorry, it took me awhile to get in to installation. Well, just put left rear speaker (CL-6X). I assume thin terminal on the speaker is (-). The door panel is still in the trunk. So far I am not impressed with the lows. May be it will sound better when I put all 4 speakers? Or should I think about an amp and sub? What is your experience and opinion? Thanks.

i worry nothing about the lows coming from my interior speakers. the cl6x are for rear fill. also you cant judge based on 1 speaker. if you want bass just put in subs. hows the mids/highs?

Hey, "slickrick"
Is done! I spent about 13 hours?! yesterday. Why did it take so long? anyway, I like the sound so far. Next step will be adding XP radio. Do you have any experience in this field?

Thanks for your advice.

Roman.

it took me forever too. i tried to do research but when i did it i got either no response or people wouldnt just not know. so now when people ask i try to help because i know how they felt. if i knew what i was doing i could have got it done in a few hours. anyway, i have no experience with it because i refuse to pay monthly for music when i can make mp3 cd's for free.

you'll be really happy with the 61a's and the 6x's. i have the 61a's running off an amp and the 6x's off the deck and it sounds great. i have a similar system to slickrick's and i think the main difference is the subs we are running.

What are you gaining by running CL-61a’s of an amp? What kind of amp? As far as a sub: I would like to place a sub somewhere inside the car, not in the trunk. Also my HU (Alpine cd9805) has sub output. I wonder if a sub can be connected directly to the HU?

there is no real place to put a sub besides the rear deck or the trunk. you can connect a sub to your h/u. by running an amp you can make your speakers get louder without distorting as much. you will also get more midbass.

the sub can be connected via rca cables to the head unit but it will need to be powered by a separate amp.

I too have cl61 and cl6x I like the cl61 but my rears are very weak. I have them hooked up to my HU, THey distort when the volume is a little more than 50%. Mabey they need an amp to sound better.
