Radar Detector Recommendations?

I'd like to buy a radar detector to stop those pesky smokeys from pulling me over for giving my SE some love. Do they really work well? Any recommendations on brands/models? I was in BestBuy looking at them and wasn't sure what I should pick up or even if I should get one. I live in Connecticut and I'm not sure what bands etc are used here. I also don't know anything about radar detectors so excuse my ignorance about them :P

if you're gonna spend a lot might as well get something that just spits out all kinds of radiation and photons and crap, like a "jammer", the "jammer" will detect known radar and laser and also confuse the hell out of the equipment.

EDIT- only downside is it might increase the risk of cancer

Dont waste your time with a "jammer"...please!

Whatever you get, remember that having a RADAR detector is only good when used with common sense. If you think you're invincible with one, then you'll probably get more tickets after you start using it.

IMHO You should go with either the Valentine 1 (which is quite pricey) or the Passport 8500 (sold at Best Buy). Both can be and are priced over $300. The Valentine is supposed to be the BEST on the market but is very expensive, not to say $300 is chump change. I bought the Passport 8500 and absoulutely love it. Saved my a$$ a lot down here in Texas during Spring Break. Do not purchase a cordless radar that run on batteries. They tend to lose their range after the batteries get low on juice. My recommendation buy the Passport 8500 along with the hardwire kit. Good luck and enjoy, BUT don't drive like a a$$hole with this radar. It doesn't make you invisible.

IMO a radar detector is pretty much just a mental excuse to speed. If you still really want to get one, go with the Passport 8500.

Stay away from cheap crap. I have a Passport 7500 and a Bell 980. Thay are both very good detectors. As most people mentioned, use your common sense. They will not protect you from laser guns and instant-on. There are some good websites you can check for comparison tests.
I would recommend the Passport 8500 if you have cash. Hope this helps.Check out this link if you want http://www.radar-detectors.com/suppo...dar-review.asp
