ODB II...Call me crazy

Maybe I watched "The Fast and the Furious" way too many times, but....I liked the idea of having digital readouts on how my car is performing, like how the guy had a laptop plugged into his car. I'm thinking...ODB II reader plugged into a laptop with video out plugged into the 7" screen. What do you guys think? Would it work? is it safe for the car?

there's zillions of programs out there already that do that. the'll connect to a palmtop, PDA, laptop.. I've even seen one that uses a hacked GameBoy.
