2K2 owners with aftermarket HU and with Wheel controls.. pls look..

ok, i am planning to a big install this weekend, and i just got my deck, dash kit, wire harness, and pac SWI-X steering wheel control interface.

now my question is, i do not see anywhere in the manual that i can still use my trip function button. this was the whole reason i bought the converter. i could care less about controling th vol/track by my wheel, but I do NEED the MPG, DTE, TRIP, TEMP. do you guys have all of this working with your aftermarket radio?? thanks guys..

i neglected to do any of this when i installed my radio over winter break and plan to do it sometime this summer. you do not need the pac swix to run the trip controls. apparently there is a brown wire with a white stripe you ground to make the trip controls work. its located on the left over harness. i cannot verify it yet because ive not done it yet.

i just looked it up for you, and yes, it will work for that make of your deck.

there are many sony decks that are not compatibal, some denon decks, and the delphi XM SKYFI does not work with it either.

that is tremendous good news for me! i really did not have the extra money to buy the converter. but is there any posable way to find out what wire i need to use? and by grounding it out, do you mean just hook the wire up to a metal screew on a metal peice? thanks

There is a single brown wire with a white stripe that is part of a 4-wire harness that originally connected to the back of the OEM radio. This is the wire that needs to be grounded for the trip computer to once again work properly.

Thank all of you very much for your help on this one, it made my day knowing that i did not need the converter. but the only thing i do not understand is how it works. why would grounding out the wire make the trip work again? i don't know, it just seems odd... is grounding the wire completing the circuit? and if so, why didn't nissan just do it this way? thanks again!

Consider it confirmed. Your thread is number 1,004,748 that have asked this question... this year alone. I really don't understand why we don't have an audio FAQ.

I apologize. But after owning 3 diffrent fourth gens over the past years, i knew them inside and out. now when i upgrade to a 5th gen, it is a whole new learning experiance all over again... it is the same car, but it's not, you know? i have only had this car for a month, and my knowledge has incressed greatly. and i know it is all repeat questions, and i know how annoying it must get, but we all start out some where... and the search is down! i should have donated when i had the chance.

No apology needed! I wasn't griping about your thread, I was really just griping about the lack of a FAQ sticky and the lack of the search. Don't worry about it man!

i used the brown wire with wiith white dots on it. it is the only brown wire back there. do i have to hook it up to the ground on my new deck, or do i just have to screew it in to a peice of metal? thanks.
