2K2 Bose Sub
2K2 Bose Sub
Well, my upgrades for an amp, hu and front speakers are finally completed. I now have to determine what I'm going to do about a sub. I am leaning toward a "free-air" solution mounted on the rear deck because I really don't want a big heavy box in my trunk and because I'd like to be able to blend the woofer into the rest of the system a little better. I expect that the "free-air" design will do that. As a first step, I was considering one of two options, either wiring a signal from my HU straight into the existing amp on the Bose sub or bypassing the existing Bose sub amp and running my own power amp to it. Then, depending upon the results/performance, I could upgrade to an aftermarket woofer which I would custom mount on the rear deck.
So, before I get started, I'd like to solicit input from anyone who might have performed these sorts of tests on the OEM Bose subwoofer. I'm really interested in whether or not it can sound better than the stock Bose system did just by using an aftermarket HU signal and/or by using an aftermarket amp with it. Thanks!

Running an aftermarket HU with the Bose amp will work. However, don't expect great sound. Actually, don't expect ANY improvements. Sound will get worse then stock. I had an Eclipse HU with the stock Blose system and it sounded like garbage. No bass at all. I ripped it all out today and put in all new components. Sound is excellent now. Do the work right the first time, change out all speakers and wiring.
