power cable through firewall. where?

sorry if this question has come up before, but i didn't have much time to search.

i am installing a couple amps in my 2001 gxe. i cannot seem to find a good location in the firewall to run my power cable through. i am using 4ga cable.

any suggestions would be great.
thanks

There should be a little spot right above the driver's kick panel. In my 2K, there was a small triangular piece that was already preferated in the floor trim covering the firewall which I removed and drilled away. Just make sure when you drill, there's nothing behind it when the drill bit goes thru the other side.

ok , i did see that piece and i pulled it aside to see just bare metal. i was trying to see where it came out in the engine compartment. they packed that engine compartment like a FAT man's refrigerator!

maybe i'll have to poke a small hole and then look for it.

thanks for the help. can always count on the org. for the right info.

out

No need to drill. There is a rubber thingy in the fender well that you an just punch a hole through and then shove your wire through it. It comes out above the drivers kick panel.

From engine into fender well:

Fender well through firewall:

Inside near hood release above the kickpanel:

...I'm one of the rebelious ones that ran theirs under the car all the way back to the trunk..i protected all exposed sections with reinforced tubing (the stuff for high pressure applications), and ran it under the shield for the brake and fuel lines..more than adequate protection..sorry, i dont have any pics, but you get the idea i hope.

i did it like i do every car i've wired up...15+..battery back down behind quarter panel into door jam, through grommet for the wires that go to the door into the kick panel and under the molding along the door jams...really fast and all you can see is a little wire when the door is open

Do you have to remove the fender liner to get to the "rubber thingy"?

Yes, the fender liner comes out by first removing the black trim piece (3 screws - 2 in well, 1 underneath), then remove the 4? screws around fender liner piece and the 4? black snaps (center pops out, then snap comes out). Push the trim in to unhook the outer edge from the body, and you will have the access you need to add the wire (I ran mine up and over the strut through the hole where the green wire goes in the photo).

Ran a length of 8 gauge through the grommet first (much easier to thread with smaller gauge), then taped the 4 guage to it and ran that through. Ended up getting a bigger 4 channel amp than expected, so I ran another 4 gauge line through there as well (Both fit under the interior kick/trim panels)
