New sub, now I need an amp

I have bought an Infinity Reference 1230w, but I only have 25W RMS going to it and it needs 300W RMS. Its peak power is 1200W so I wouldn't like to go over a 900W peak power amp. I have looked and there are many different kinds of amps at many different prices. I need a 2 channel I can bridge or a 1 channel at 4 ohms. Oh yea, my price range is about maximum $200, this isn't very high but I am on a budget of $80 a week. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

jbl 600.1 @ 4 ohms gives it 300 watts rms. but be careful if you give that sub 300 watts... make sure its in a small sealed box and watch the gains.

How do you measure how many cubic feet the box is? My box is about 12.75Wx12.75x13.0H. I need a 1.25 cubic foot box, and was wondering how big of a difference the size of the box would make? I am new to car audio.

your box is about .85 assuming its made of 3/4" wood. do you happen to know the minimum recommended box size is for that sub? you can put about 1 lb of polyfill into the box to make the sub think its in a bigger box. id just do that and put 200-300 watts rms to it.

The recomended internal box volume is 1.25 cubic feet, I am tryin to calculate what the dimensions would be for a 1.25 cubic foot box but I have yet to figure it out. I would like to make my own box, the wood would be 3/4". The box I have now is made out of 1/2" wood. Would I find polyfill at Lowe's or Home Depot? Thanks.

yeah build a box out of 3/4 mdf. you can find polyfill at walmart for like $2.
edit: go to #110 on that website.

Thanks for the link, I figured out if would be 14x14x11, internal, to make a 1.25 cubic foot box, does this sound right to you? If I build a new box should I still put polyfill in it, or put it in the box I have? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm still a little confused. Oh yea, this polyfill, is it fabric like stuff or what form is it in? Thanks.

with that box size and 300 watts no polyfill. do you plan on sending it 300 watts?

I will send it 300 watts if I can find a good priced amp. I might borrow my friends and send it 150W. How are the pioner amps? Walmart has a 750W max for like $170 and I was thinking about getting that. Until then I will stick with the 25 watts I have going to it now, it sounds awsome with it like that so I might not even change it. I'm looking for SQ, not loudness. Thanks for all the imformation.

25 watts is not nearly enough and do not buy anything from walmart regarding car audio except wiring. are you powering it off a h/u?

im sure hes clipping the **** out of it but that sub is very sensitive so im sure it will move a little.. not enough to "bump" though.

Yea 25 watts, at leasts that what I believe thats what it says on the back, but I could be wrong about the 25 though, but I know its not more than 100. I'm not sure what bump means but it hits hard and makes plenty of bass, enough to make things in my car shake at least, thats with the gain turned up 3/4 the way.

I am not sure about Legacy but wth the shipping included on that item it would be about $55 and I found the same thing for $46 withought shipping and it's probably about $60 shipped if you don't like buying from ebay, LA220. What I was reading is that it is 300 watts peak powerI believe, but I could be wrong, Specs.

What do you mean clipping it, and what does it mean to bump? It moves more than alittle though.

Thanks, Mooney

Edit: I have a Rockford Fosgate Punch 100a2 powering it.

looks like its getting 50 watts assuming is a SVC sub. its probably being clipped which means you are sending more power than the amp normally produce so it sends "dirty" power and causes clipping which can cause popping in your subs. if you like how it sounds maybe just build a big box and see if you like it with the current amp.

Shoot it's late, anyways. Will the popping caused from clipping mess up the sub? Also what is an SVC sub? Thanks for all the info, if these questions are answered this will be all the imformation I will need. Thanks again.

popping will definately damage the sub. It is called distortion and will blow your sub. SVC is for Single Voice Coil. DVC is dual voice coils. The difference is mostly in wiring configurations for the sub to get the most power out of an amp. A DVC will not get any more performance than a SVC with the same power going to the sub.

It is a SVC, I don't hear any popping or distortion. If I turn the gain down on the amp will that help make it not pop? I just want to make sure I don't blow it.

its hard to hear clipping inside the car so go and do this... put on a bass heavy track and put it up to the highest volume you will ever play it at. then go open your trunk and listen to the sub.. if you hear anything strange then lower the gain. do this for about a minute to see if you hear any clipping, but dont **** of your neighbors.

I will try to listen to it in the trunk, I have already **** my neighbors of enough so I don't believe one more time will hurt. I got a new amp today from a friend, it is a lighting audio 450W max, 150.2 RMS. I bridged it so will it make more than 150W RMS? The recomended lowest RMS for the sub is 100 so I think I will be okay, and i have the gain turned up a little over 1/2. Thanks, for the info.
