AMP-RMS OR PEAK??? Anyone know??

I put infinity 6.5's in my doors and i wanna get a small 4 channel to amp them...how many watts should the amp be to make it sound nice without blowing them???? Should I follow the RMS wattage of the speakers or peak??

the rms, peak will blow the speakers, rms is the wattage that the speakers draw on average. The JL Audio e4300 is a good amp for this.

give em 75-100 rms. Usually, though, you can give em more power than they're rated for, as long as you don't clip the signal. The headroom can be good.

If the amp is sending a good clean signal out to the speakers then they shouldn't blow untill you feed them a stupidly high amount of wattage.

Make sure the speakers are highpassed at 80hz so you're not trying to turn them into subs. Trying to get too much bass out of them will blow them quickly for sure. You'll find that they will not distort nearly as quickly if they're highpassed like this.

Most amps will have a high pass filter for this. Alpine and other well made decks will have this feature in them to high pass front or rear RCA outputs. Alternatively you can use a capacitor to accomplish the same thing.

You could get a 111x4 RMS Infinity 7540a. It's $200 on ebay the last time I looked. That is probably too much powerwise. Do you have kappas, refernce or perfect series?

That sounds right, good buy. I bought a 293RMS Infinity 7520a off ebay for $100 w/ free wiring kit. Good luck.

P.S. Tell me how the reference sounds when you get them in. I'm looking at kappa 62.5i or perfect 6.1 components.
