adire shiva

I won an auctoin on ebay thinking that it was the brahma, but got this. now that I am stuck with this, what should I use to power this thing up, and obviously a custom box would be much better, can I get away with a prefabbed box for this? it is a 12 inch.

also, could I run this using the stock stereo, non bose, with the pac converter deal or in any other fashion without having to amp the four speakers?

Shiva is a DVC 8ohm driver rated at 650 watts RMS so figure out what kind of amp you need from that. I run 2 shivas in custom boxes built myself using adire's plans on www.adireaudio.com . I spliced into my rear bose speakers and ran wires to a scoche line converter that can be had for like ten bucks from walmart. I bet that you could do the same with the stock nonbose stereo.

if you want sealed id say 1.5cuft with about 300 watts @ 4 ohms would be perfect. shivas can apparently sound excellent ported but making a sealed box is much easier. ive spoken with adire numerous times about a box size for my shivas and im going to make a new box for mine when i have time thats 1.5cubes per sub also.

right on, I wouldn't have the box any other way. as far as wattage is concerned, I plan on pushing the sub(or at least be able to when I want to) 3/4 of its limits, so I think at least 500 watts rms would be going through the sub. would this have any effect on the current volume(1.5 cu. ft) of the box?

5 spd: do you plan on building the box yourself?

bearded... i have the same/similar setup box size wise. i love the box size but im hunting for a touch more low end... hence 1.5 per sub. 5 spd what amp do you have? if you send 300 watts to a shiva in a 1.5 sealed box it will be at 3/4 of its mechanical abilities (roughly) when using full power. 500 watts in that box is way too much power imo. the shiva is a very sensitive speaker and that 650 rms is only a thermal rating. it takes less than half that power to reach full excursion in a decent sized box.

They are 0.90 cubic feet each. With these I have plenty of room left in the trunk.

Yeah for 5 spd a larger box would definitely be wise, so long as it clears the roof of the trunk. I am probably going to rebuild myself some larger ones. I agree with slickrick, 500watts is a lot to put into the sub. I have a 1000 watt rockford amp and that is probably too much for mine. The shiva sounds great even at very low wattages.

Slickrick, did you build your boxes yourself? Do you have any pictures?

nah. i had 10's and modified their box (decent prefab) and they get 1 cube each. these subs are so solid for the price. your boxes look great. do you plan on putting each box next to each fenderwell? do you know what im talking about? i think that would be a great idea but i dont know how the response is if they are firing towards the side of the car. i have no pix of my box but i can get some if you want.

with everything said, looks like I will keep it in a 1.5 cu ft sealed enclosure. I have an extra 2 channel laying around that is plenty for this sub. thanks for all of the suggestions and feedback.

and yes, I will make the box myself.
