the Neo iON
http://www.carplayer.com/whatisit.html
compatible with the new 4gen ipod. tho the max wasnt on the compatibility list. i sent in my info (04MAXSE) and am waiting to see.
this seals the deal. im getting an ipod. more support, more accesories, screw iriver.
BTW, im Eduardo, just registered in to the forums, cuz well just got the ride. i love
White 04 SE. I have plenty of questions and plenty of input (i believe so). ohh, and im not an ***.

Thanks for the info, guys. I almost bought a IPOD with FM modulator(almost 90 bucks from bestbuy) today. good thing I decided to think more. my friend has IPod with FM modulator and the sound quality was bad...so I decided to think one more time...
I have one question tho, these adapter won't make the factory screen able to display song title and etc, right? If the factory screen displays the song titles and stuff, i would get this adapter right now.
well...even if it won't display, i think i'd get this adapter anyways...
thanks for the info, guys!!

If you have a Bose (OEM) system, don't get your hopes up. I have a 4G iPod (20G) and the only quick solution was cassette adaptor (hell, it was $2).
I contacted another POD vendor and they only have an adaptor that connects to the SAT input of the Factory BOSE. Its interface is RCA stereo jacks (inputs) only. You'd have to get a mini to RCA stereo cable and run it under the console to the stereo. And you will not get controls (other than volume).
Unless you put in a 3rd party headunit (with CD changer connection like a Pioneer...) the NEO is not recommended.
Seems to me that Nissan needs a "demand" letter to incorporate a choice of audio input options. "no highs, no lows, must be Bose"

well i just got impatient and just called the ppl that sell the NEO iON and they told me that its not currently compatible with the 04 MAX. but adaptors for it are always coming out, so anyone who wants one just get on the notification mailing list. thats does seem like a nice accessory, i sorta want to wait.

i figure i should keep this post on this thread.
can anyone help me make a good clip/holster for the ipod? i want to display it nicely on the MAX. i figure the best place would right in front of the tape player (who still uses those). Something like a holster that can clip to the bottom lip of the tape player. can someone help me make one? or recommend a holster so i can modify it.

the second quote refers to the SAT button on the car. the first quote is basically saying that their cant be a sat radio installed just cuz the adaptor will plug to where the sat radio plugs. and you select it by using the sat button.

The "SAT" button is used for the factory option of satellie radio, which most people did not order. The AAI-NIS plugs into the back of the radio, with an OEM plug...". According to how I understood that second quote is that you need to have the satellite radio otherwise you can't do it, but in the first quote I understood it to be that the only way it worked is if you didn't have the satellite radio.
I might've confused myself or I'm reading these things incorrectly, please elaborate.
Currently I have an '04 SE without the satellite radio option so will this work with my current setup? Also, does the audio quality suffer or is the qality simply determined by the mp3 file size?
Thanks in advance.

Since you have the SAT button, but NO SAT radio, you can use this device.

Well, I just installed the PAC AAI-NIS in my Maxima and d@mn does it sound great. True I can't control the iPOD other than the volume, but it's the sound that is most important after all. Now I always have my entire album collection plus over 3GB of other mp3s I downloaded in my car all the time. For those who might be interrested, I have the Bose audio system in my car, WITH the satellite radio option, but I did not purchase the satellite tuner. I'm really glad I didn't. It took less than 30 minutes to install with help from the "Take Apart Your Dash Step By Step" thread in the "6th Generation Maxima How To..." section. It doesn't quite take you all the way to the place where you can hook the PAC unit to the radio but the rest was easy enough to figure out. I'll post pics if anyone is interrested. To make the iPOD easier to hook up, I used a Belkin auto power adapter plugged into the power outlet by the radio and ran the "mini-plug to RCA plug" cord from the line out on the Belkin adapter to the RCA plugs on the PAC unit, routing the cord under the console. It looks great too, hardly any wires visable. Also, the Belkin adapter has a wheel to adjust the line-out level to match the iPOD volume to the other radio sources. I will probably put a small hole in the console, behind the power supply door in the future so that no wires are visible at all except for the wire going to the iPOD.
Hey SoloSL203, if you ever come up with an adapter let me know. I also think the best place to mount the iPOD is over/next to the cassette. If I come up with a solution I'll share.

yea, i'm looking for good holsters/clips right now. since i'm getting impatient, im thinkin bout putting the PAC adaptor.
for a temporary place for the ipod, i think would be the storage conpartment under the tape player...
well.... what i was thinking before (with the neo ion), was to have a clip/holster on the bottom lip of the tape slot and have a hole on the inside of the storage conpartment to run the cords thru. then when i want to put it away, i could just stuff the holster and cords on the storage and take my ipod.

control your ipod through your HU from Alpine. They built a special site just for it:
http://alpine-usa.com/driveyouripod
This is awesome b/c it charges your ipod while connected and it is ten times better than the BMW version. Just ordered mine.

Here is my setup, obviously without the stock HU it was easier to hook up the line out as my HU has many options...I ran the RCA in through the bottom of the center console and also ran power from inside the console for charging. I also like the cup holder version for the ipod as it's right there for easy access while driving.

I didn't do the install myself, but it took the guys a few hours to do it, but they had never worked on a new Maxima before either. I guess it depends on their skill level...I just left them my car all day long so they could take their time.

Installing an AAI-NIS is just plugging it into the back of your radio. It doesn't get much easier than that.

The internal batteries tend to lose use based on heavy use, but for the car mine is aklways hooked upto power so it shouldn't be a problem. Plus Apple will replace the battery for a fee which sucks but...
Here's a good site to learn all there is to know about the IPOD

If you knew what you were talking about you would know that the head unit is supplied by Clarion and they would be the ones to provide an input into the system. But then of course you wouldn't be able to quote your little Bose jingle then would you? Funny how this thread has gone for a whole page with no one complaining about the sould quality (which is a Bose responsibility).
Oh, another thing. Clarion also makes the SAT reciever with the RCA inputs that you don't like! Maybe we could make up a jingle for them. Or you could just blame Nissan for not specifying a better system interface. It is there car design after all.

I would really love to be able to do this but want to reassure myself about it.
Also, I heard that IPOD's last no longer than 2 years or so is this true???

My 1st Gen iPod is still kicking after over two years of use. I just use the tape adapter with the Dolby NR on and it sounds great! I get loads of compilments from everyone who hears it (young and old!). Now that Bose has an agreement with Apple to produce home unit speaker docks (ala the Delphi XM Radio Home Dock) it hopefully will encourage Nissan to get them to put an Apple dock in the new models.

You can control the IPOD though the steering wheel controls with the SWI-X, IF your IPOD has the IR remote option.
But..... the SWI-X and AAI-NIS is tested to work on the 04 Maxima. Jsmithsole had his 04 Max over there for some testing but I"m not sure what the outcome was.

IPOD's have a remote contol option that you can add on. The remote is like a key chain looking thing, looks like a car alarm remote.
If you add an SWI-X (and if it is tested to work on the 04 Max), then you can control the IPOD with your steering wheel. The SWI-X is basically a infrared repater, it'll take the electrical signals from your steering wheel, and turn them into IR signals and send it to whatever unit you want to control.

Thanks, defintiely gonna try out the PAC AAI-NIS, but the only problem is, with the Maxima it says that the steering wheel controls wont work. Im just wondering if abnyone figured out a way to use the steering wheel to control the ipod. that would be so hot...

I had no choice for stereo systems in my car purchase. To purists, Bose is justt a name now. And Clarion is not Eclipse. But since I see NO indication that the unit is Clarion from the outside. And my car invoice says Bose 6 disc changer system, to me its a Bose. And this forum lists others with issues on bass rattle (oops, its rear dash vibrating on bare metal).
I came here looking for help, and not attitude. Thanks alot.
As for iPod hookup, I'll thank Cobymoby for his reply and support.

Here's some pics of my setup:
(might not show, car domain is being weird)
I ran the wire from the HU into the bottom of the armrest, there's also power in there so it makes it a pretty functional route.

If a combo of the PAC AAI-NIS and the SWI-X works with the 04 Maxima Bose setup without Sat reciever then I would consider buying this setup. Can someone get it done and post a how to?
EDIT: I meant to say, if the steering wheel controls worked with this combo then I would consider it. I am not going to bother with it if I have to take my eyes off the road. I commute 72 miles a day in the Chicago burbs and the traffic can be really rough so I don't wanna be hitting buttons on a ipod and rear end someone.
