Blown subwoofer

When people say "The subwoofer blows". Does it physically blow or it's just an expression? The reason I ask is that all of a sudden, one of my subwoofers in the box stopped working... There was no smoke... nothing at all... just stopped working. The music was pretty loud... Did it "blow"?

Maybe. Only way to find out for sure is to pull it out of the box and do some checks. Measuring the voice coil with a meter will tell you a lot.
