Amp Question!!! Why so cheap?

I have encountered a brand called Volfenhag which is a german-made amp, that's all I know about it. Researching further on the net, I seen multi-channel, 800 watt models of such amp for less than $100!!!! Why so cheap? Is this one of those amps with major harmonic distortions and cheap electronic components?

Just wondering.

Simply put you get what you pay for. As far as the power rating any manufacturer can pretty much just throw numbers on there. Getting the power falls under the ILS theory (If Lightning Strikes it).

So far I was only able to find one review for this amp: http://www.epinions.com/pr-Volfenhag...splay_~reviews .

I do believe in that fact Don. Sometimes you hear of things that are too good to be true. This amp is all over eBay, brand new, dirt cheap! They are pretty sharp-looking amps tho.

Im sure I can help provide you with what your looking for if ya gimme some specifics and a budget to work with. I just simply hate seeing people learn the hard way with things and throwing good money after bad. Im sure that my feedback thread can confirm that I am very straightup with my business.

I hear ya man!!! I'm not naive when it comes to audio equipment and to be safe than sorry, I always like to get other people's opinions. My budget is under $400. I am ditching the Nissan Bose, finally. I have a set of Infinity Kappa Perfects 6.5 for the front, and a set of Infinity Reference 6.5 for the rears. I have JL15w3 (dual 4ohms: I can wire for 2 or 8 ohms), this drastically reduces my amp selection because not many amps can be bridged at such loads safely. So I'm planning on running the front and rear speakers directly to a h/u with 45watts built-in, and powering the sub with an amp that is around 300-400 watts RMS. Idealy, I would love to have a JL450/4 which will power the entire system nicely but that thing is at least $700.

Got any suggestions?

So pretty much you would like to be in a good clean sounding amp within the $400 budget? Is there any slack within the budget? Are you more typically prone to loud music or just clean sound? Like I said, Im sure I can help out, but nothing that is gonna win an SPL contest....

--Don

BTW..theres tons of amps that run at a 2Ohm mono load, that is actually the typical.

That's what I thought slickrick, especially when this person told me he will let me return the amp if I don't like it. Sounds very fishy to me.

Don,

I'm not looking for serious SPL. I just want to use what I have and get what I need to have. I have 1 (not two) JL15w3. I am not into the 2-sub setup anymore primarily because of room. One sub is enough for me. I was at another thread and they mentioned the Kicker KX400.1. I looked up the specs on its website and it is definitely right up my alley performance and price-wise. It's only going for $155 on eBay. Still, I know that you get what you pay for that's why my budget is around the $400 dollar range. I would like to be able to amplify my mids, highs, and 1 sub. I want it to sound clean and be able to feel the bass. I am not looking into playing my music for the people around me.

Just keep in mind one main factor...Ebay = Absolutely no warranty. Giving up a three year warranty could end up being more expensive in the long haul. The KX700.5 kicker may be what your looking for...although I can in no one compare to Ebays pricing as who knows wheres its actually coming from.

Good point. I just saw that item and I know the risks involved. I was ripped off once already on eBay although what I lost is chump change compare to car audio things but its the principle of the matter. I think as long as I get something around my price range considering the setup I'm after...I can find something that won't break the bank. And I'm in no hurry either so I am carefully shopping around for things.

I know that the MTX class d line-up is 2 ohm stable.. I would recommend the 421d mono amp if you are on a budget.. This amp would get you a legit 420 watts at 12.5 volts and can be found at a good price..

Chitwista,

I had an MTX 6500D (if I remember correctly) and I had two major issues with it, over-heating and it died in a matter of months. I used the proper gauge for the power / ground wires and I was even using a cooling fan to keep the heat away from the heat sink. I used a JL Audio 500/1 and I never had problems.

Don,

I like the KICKER KX700.5!!! I found one at www.audiooutfitter.com for $324 (refurbished). What's your price? What is your take on refurbished equipment?

**edit**

Also found another one here: http://thewholesalematrix.zoovy.com/...e-KICKERKX7005 for $312.95, brand new...shipping includes insurance anywhere in the U.S.!!!

I hear you man.. That would certainly leave a bad taste in your mouth.. I am running the 564 and the 1501d and never had a problem so I thought I would just throw it out there..

Thanks. I appreciate your input. I bought the MTX at Audio Xcellence in Las Vegas (where I used to live). I bought their exchange/service warranty. So when the amp blew, I got credited for the purchase price of that amp and used it towards the JL Audio amp. That warranty saved my neck big time!

Just like Ebay I cant compare to non Authorized sellers. Actually both of those prices are below Dealer cost. Especially the second one, being that the first one is a refurb and is the older model. If you definately insist on buying online you may want to check with Kicker as far as whos Authorized to sell their products online. I for example am not an Authroized "Internet" dealer. I will be completely upfront about that. I am however a legit Authorized Kicker dealer, and what I do for the Org is my risk to take.

you can find a grip of hifonics amps on ebay which did me pretty well. I bought two (low power mercury and centurion) but it plays loud and clean. My brother accidentally switched th epositive and negative and my amp popped and smoke yet it still sounds the same and is just as loud. So just throwin around ideas.

I saw that one too. However, I found this one: http://www.thezeb.com/p-Kicker-04KX7...ier-106378.htm , its a legit internet seller and its even in Kicker's list of authorized dealers. Plus its about $87 cheaper! Beat this price and I'll get it from you.

Def buy authorized, nothing like peace of mind....I was over Don's working on my car when an orger/4th gen owner was having his Kicker ebay amps installed by don (an 800.4 and a 1200.1) and end result was the 800.4 had blown inputs sending some crazy input noise and the 1200.1 could barely match the output of my Kx600.1
