Question about my amp

Ok I have a JBL bp1220.1 amp. It does 1200 watts rms @ 2 ohms...or 600 watts rms @ 4 ohms...

I wanna get 2 12's alpine type r's which are 1000 peak and 300 rms each...now they come in 2 ohm and 4 ohm styles....they are the same price...

i dont know much about audio setups but am i right when i think i should run 2 12" 4 ohm subs at 4 ohms? (see what im sayin)... thats 600 watts rms from my amp goin to 600 watt rms subs...am i correct?

also how do i configure my amp to do 2 ohms or 4 ohms?

thanks a lot guys

id get dvc4 ohm subs and give them 300 each. my friend has his type r's off a jbl600.1 and 300 a piece is perfect. plus it will be easier on the amp and the electrical system. however, if you want to use your amp to its full potential id look into getting a "super" sub. you can get type r's and wire them to a 2 ohm load but 600 to each sub is way too much imo. if your amp is 1 ohm stable id look into spending a few bucks more and getting once nice sub. or maybe 2 RE se 12's....

the amp does it power based on the subs. so 2 DVC4 subs wired in series parallel yields a 4 ohm load. 4 ohms= 600 watts.
