Low key head unit
#1
A while back when the topic of head units for under $300 was discussed I made mention of the Kenwood 8017 as it played MP3's and was more stealth being a 5th generation install and having a more open presentation in the dash.
Well here is what it looks like installed.
the EQ underneath is a Directed 5500 ( in case you care)
So far I've been impressed with the MP3 capabilities
but will give a better report later, as I'm currently just using the internal amps to stock speakers and once I get my Amps in place I'll be better suited to tell you how MP3 stack up against factory CD's sonically

Loy key head unit
You are correct Sir, the steering wheel controls are now non-functional and I don't know of any aftermarket unit or interface that take advantage of them.
I'm sure once I've finished my install and my wife realizes she's entered into sonic rapture, she'll forget that what she used to control with her left hand, she can now control with her right ( just a matter of inches further )
