Recommend me some stuff from BestBuy!

ok, I'm sure BestBuy isn't the greatest place to get car audio equipment, but I have some gift certs and store credit there.

I am looking to put satellite radio (probably sirius) and a new head unit, etc. into my 3rd gen w/o BOSE.

can you guys recommend anything from BestBuy?

What components do I need? i.e. what size speakers, F/R, how much amp? Where to mount the amp, etc.

Thanks!

I might have close to $300 to spend in gift certs and store credit.

I don't mind paying a little more out of pocket, but definately don't want to go overboard.

My stock stereo crackles and the display doesn't light. and for some reason the rear speakers don't even work.

The system doesn't need to be show quality or anything... just good enough to enjoy some satellite radio.

What about AIWA vs JVC vs Kenwood vs Pioneer vs Rockford Fosgate vs Sony?

Which of those brands make the best HU's?

id get a pioneer from BB and (i cant believe im saying this) id have them install it. with the install costs and the radio the $300 should be gone. they should have some items on sale because the 2k5 modles are coming out if not out already.

Didn't BestBuy get the license to sell Alpine hu's? Or was it some other major electronics store? Anyway, of the choices pick pioneer for the hu and stay away from sony. 300 plus a little out of pocket isn't all that much to make a nice setup, especially from bestbuy. Think about just buying the hu and then replacing the components with something else a little nicer like eclipse.

whatever u do DO NOT go with the XM ready headunit. You wont even listen to it as my roomate has XM and hates it, he would rather listen to cd's. Sirius has the latest/best content available and only charges one charge of 12.95 per month vs. xm's 9.99 plus 6.99 for internet use plus 2.99 for opie and anthony plus this plus that. EVERYTHING comes with SIRIUS.

Sony is ok I had a friend who used it for two years and it worked fine from best buy. It still works. The display for JVC and Sony kinda suck though.

I work at Best Buy in the car audio dept. Yes we got a license to carry all Alpine products,so by early February,we should have Alpine decks at least in stock. If you dont want to wait (because Alpine would be the best) get a Pioneer deck.Best ones for the money.I have a 7600 for sale, brand new if you want that. It's a $300 deck, but I'll sell it for $220 shipped.I bought the 8600 instead. But anyways...as for SAT radio...go with sirius.Yeah the Pioneer's are XM ready, but you can always get the tuner (Sportster,JVC,XACT) for about $150 each.Best out of those...JVC,which will be in my car soon...Hope this helps.

p.s.-dont have best buy install it.They charge $85 for deck install.buy the parts and do it yourself, its real easy.

Sometimes they'll have specials where install is free if you buy it there. Look out for that.

before you run off and buys some sh!ty best buy Shat just wait untill the first week of feb they are going to start carying alpine decks last i heard from my buddy that work there. he said that they will be a little cheaper than circuit city and good guys also the install is 50 plus parts for a 5.5 gen and it was like that for my buick too so i am assuming it will be about the same. i also what so say that only some of the products are crap but they are way over priced for what they are. after you use the certs and credit get the stuff on ebay much cheaper. i got my kappa's there and i saved about 150 compared to crutchfield

RF is only good if you stay in their competition line. All their entry level, and mid level stuff has just gone to $hit.

in my opinion i love the alpine subs... they are some of the cleanest out there. the rockford entry level punch pretty hard but just arent as clean as id like. one of the installers at my work has 2 t1s in his trunk and its loud as hell... but its not so clean
