Valentine One or Passport 8500. They are some of the most expensive, but work the best.

Just go for the best one you can get. A speeding ticket will cost you more. Passport 8500 is the best overall. If you know your mostly driving in X-band territory, then the Passport 7500 will work good and is cheaper. The Valentine 1 has superior laser warning and will pick up radar signals farther.

In Europe they sell a device that jams the laser. I dont know if anyone knows if I can get one here (that works).

I don't know what kind they tested, but from what I read, they don't work. check out http://radar-detectors.com/products/jammers/default.asp ...

Unless I interpretted him wrong, he probably wants something portable, and cheap. Looking at the website displayed something that would probably have to be custom installed, etc. I'd like to see a controlled test of that lazer jamming set-up, though. With word of mouth though, you never know what the cop was thinking, etc., so we really don't know if it actually jammed the radar or what.

I have the Passport 8500 X50 .....it works very well.... the test have gone back and forth for years... V1 vs Passport .... personally I don't like the size of the V1 and found that the arrows really didn't make a diff for me....BTW radar jamers are illegal ... the reason people git away with selling them is becouse they don't work..... laser jamers are legal and have been proven to work... however thay have to be mounted to the car in the areas that laser is aimed to be effective...

Radar jammers don't work but many laser jammers do.

I would go with the passport 8500 x50 blue over the Valentine One. I have done tons of research on both and there both great radar detectors, but I don't think the Valentine One is worth the extra money.

I was accually getting ready to buy one of the 2 but then I got a ticket can't afford to spend the little money I have left for the ticket. = (traffic ones at least)
Even if I did have the money I don't know if I would spend that much on one since the cops around here are getting really smart and sitting on on-ramps and waiting until they see a speeder then getting on the highway and then they shoot you with instant-on radar from behind and your still f'ed with a good radar detector.

I have used (and owned) both and the V1 is the best - hands down. Everything will have a site saying their product is the best. Do your research first. This thread belongs in the audio and electronics section anyway.

Here is the quick breakdown:

Radar Jammers - Illegal everywhere (by the fcc) and they don't work at all!
Lasar Jammers - Legal almost everywhere, and they don't work at all!!!

Also I've had my passport 8500 for almost 2 years now, and i have been hit by Laser exactly 5 times since i've had it. Unless police in your area use laser mainly (most places don't because they are way more expensive then ka and k band guns). This being true, if you don't have alot of Laser using officers in your area, even if a laser jammer did work (they don't!) it wouldn't help but maybe once every 3 or 4 months, what good would that do?

The only time a radar detector doesn't work, is when an officer has an instant on gun. Even then your radar detector will work, you will just be caught already, and you'll know this when your radar detector goes from silent to full blast instantly. And even then in my experience, u can bleed off a few mph before the gun actually gets a useable reading allowing you to get a smaller ticket (from experience twice...)

Now as far which to buy, People with valentine1's swear by them people with 8500 swear by them (i've got an 8500) because in all test there almost equal (and more than you need) and the 8500 cost about 100 less at about 250-300 dollars. If your prown to getting tickents, then its worth it. FYI in every recent test i've seen in magazines, motortrend, car and driver, and import tuner (i believe or maybe super street) the 8500 came in first, and is my pick, having used them both numerous times.

simple, just paint your car flat black, it works like the stealth fighter in that it breaks up the radar waves, sending screwy signals back. why do you think hotrodders do it? see, im thinkin here!

you can get a second brake pedal that doesnt turn on your brake lights...there are no REAL laws restricting that but I wouldnt try it cause a friend of mine has a double pair, although effective, sets off police like crazy. Just stick with a detector, personally I would recommend 8500, the V1's arrows are nice but not too much of a help.

Glad to be here

just to let you know, if you get pulled over and the cop sees the radar, there is no way you're gonna be able to fight that ticket. ive had several radars. and when you drive with one you feel like you are secure and dont pay attention and get fukd anyways cuz radar guns are on/off and they can get you anytime with no warning.

I recently sent my V1 in to get upgraded, and am happy to say it is considerably smaller and lighter than the older models. As far as the best, the high end Bell, Escort and V1 are fairly comparable, your not going to go wrong with any of the three. Any one of the three will give you more than adequate radar protection, but the V1 is still tops in lidar detection, which is your biggest threat.

In regards to laser jammers, there was a jammer tested by speedzone that jammed all current lidar guns being used. www.speedzones.com has some good info on radar/lidar detectors and jammers.

Why r ppl so skiddish about having a radar detector when they get pulled over by cops? I mean if its not in a state where its illegal who cares, As many times as i've been pulled over (with and without radar detectors... and were talkin upwards of 15 times in 3 years) the officer has never given a crap whether i had one or not. As a matter of fact when i was pulled over (for no reason, wasn't speeding and the cop just wanted to say "hi") i've had my radar detector sitting there SCREAMING at full volume because the cop car was right behind me, and the officer never even mentioned it or looked twice at it. They don't care! If they catch u with one, they just laugh at you, makes no difference in the ticket you'll get. I've gotten off before when speeding and the cop obviously noticed my detector... (shrug) so whats the big deal?

My cobra used to work ok. emphasis on ok. Now it seems like it doesnt go off as often unless it wants to tell me that there is an automatic door somehwere in the 2 mile vacinity. The only time I use it is when a cop goes past you the other way and youre waiting for his brakelights to come on so you know to run or not..... My cobra gives me so little warning that I basically only know if he had his radar on when he went past me. Gives me a heads up on whether I should run or not. Other than that, useless

You know just because V1 is the most expensive doesnt mean its the best. I've owned one and it quite frankly just isnt all that. The thing sends off false alarms all the time. Everytime someone behind me that has a radar the V1 goes off.
