getting AVIC-N1 for my 5th gen, couple questions

wasnt sure if this should go in AV forum, but figured i would try in the 5th gen forum first to see what you guys say

ok well i was going to get rims, but a fellow orger is selling his brand new avic n1 for 1200 and i had to jump on this

anyway, i have a 2000 se with the double din bose

as far as i know, i can purchase a gxe din spot thing from the dealer( i dont like the metra ones to much)

what else will i need to buy right now to get this thing up and running? any more wires?

also, how hard is it to install? i have installed my cd player in my old 4th gen and im pretty good with electronics and i relize its a lil harder, just wondering how much.

about how much is it to get it "professionally" installed? i would rather not take this route as i am a do it yourself-er, but this is a big step and just want everything perfect

lastly, any tips or tricks (the driving while dvd thing, i figured that out i think)

thanks guys!

well, remember the AVIC-N1, as with most fold out navi screens, has a hideway brain unit, so you need to factor that into your installation. depending on how much wire they give you to connec the HU to the brain, you might have to mount it under the dash, under the kick panel passenger side, or under the passenger side front seat. that will be the biggest thing. im guessing a professional install may be around $100, but its been a while since i purchased something seperate and had someone install it somewhere else.

mount it under the passenger seat. nice unit. i dont think its much harder than a normal radio install except for the brain.

its just like hooking up a regular radio. get an adapter to the bose to make it easier. but it just the same.... for the e-brake thing, just ground it to the same spot as the ground for the radio, simple. you will have it on all the time unless you hook a switch in between, then you can cut it on or off.

****** as for new speakers you don't have to get new ones, don't worry about that. trust me. get an adapter from ebay or crutchfield.com it comes with the same wire colors as the bose, so you match color to color.... don't need new spks********

Since you're talking about HUs I have a question. I'm planning to get a new HU in my '01 I30. I was wondering if there was any way that I could still have the steering wheel controls working with the new HU.

I checked it out on ebay, and it says its only for the Murano, Altima, and Maxima. I know the Maxima is the same as an I30, but I have an '01. And it said that it fits 03, 04, and 05 i think

Good choice on the GXE kit, it will look a lot better. You were able to order it with the pocket? Did it come as 2 separate parts? Because I know the Metra kit comes with everything you need but I wasnt sure the GXE kit did.

Teqniq-The AAI-NIS is the auxiliary input adapter. The PAC SWI-X is the steering wheel control interface. Basically, the SWI-X has an eye you mount somewhere in the car that emits the same frequency as the aftermarket radio's remote control.

Ok, I thought so.

It all depends on how many installs you have done in the past. Ive installed for a few years now, and I did a 6600DVD in a 5th gen, was very easy.

if you get that adapter on post #8 is all about matching color to color real simple. and just ground the e-brake wire for road use.

Do you ground the ebrake wire with the black ground wires on the harness, or do you find some metal that will work as a ground under the dash?

Does it matter??
