amp wont power

i have all the wires hooked into the amp necessary for power--12v, remote and ground, and cant get the amp to turn on. i took the amp to best buy and they said its powering on when they hook it up. this leads me to one conclusion... my ground. at first i connected the ground to a random bolt in the trunk, and when that didnt work, i drilled through the right side of the trunk and bolted it down. still no power. where do u guys have ur ground running to? my bolt is on the trunk floor on the right side, near 2 other bolts that are already there. y the **** isnt this shiznit workin?

Did you check the fuse on the power wire? The only other thing I can think of right now is that maybe your remote signal from the HU is not working.

go back to any of those grounding points and try to sand off any paint that's there to create a good metal to metal contact.

If your grounds are good and the amp is still not coming on, grab a multimeter and test your remote wire.. If you dont get any voltage from the remote wire, you couldve accidently burned out the remote circuit in the head unit.. if thats the case then you can wire in a relay to use the accessory circuit to power the amp..

what kind of headunit do you have? My buddy's Panasonic had trouble not powering up the amp. found out it was the remote lead coming from the headunit. Seems alot of the Panasonics have that problem. Take a 12v test lead and see if you are getting power at the power, ground, and remote terminal on your amp. if you are not getting power at the remote, you have to find another acc. source to power up the amp. i just tied in my buddys remote wire to the hot wire going to the headunit.

As A32Matt says ... take a jumper wire from your +12V and wire it to the turn on. If the amp turns on, you have a problem with your turn on lead. In this case, tap into something else that only comes on with ignition.

If you have 2 blue wires coming from the head unit, make sure that you are using the one labled rem. If you use the power antenna lead, you amp will only work with the am/fm and not when a CD is inserted.

i have to go and "borrow" a voltmeter from my physics lab to see if the remote wire is putting out power. i drilled through the trunk and put a bolt thru, grounding it there. i did scratch off all paint before i grounded. the kenwood HU i put in was brand new, and i used the manual to correspond the wires as i soldered, b/c i was confused about the two blue wires. The amp doesnt turn on w/ CD OR AM/FM, so i dont believe that i soldered them incorrectly as tigger stated. i did quickly touch ground to power, seeing if it sparked. gave me a hellova flash. if the ground was really crappy, im assuming it would still give me a spark though. after i "borrow" -which i will return, the voltmeter, i'll get back to you guys.

so i tested it w/ the voltmeter. im getting about 13.8 volts from the battery, and .5millivolts from the remote. is this not enough power from the remote to amp to turn it on?

If i'm not mistaken, remote wire should be 12V. It certainly should be more than 5mV.

Jumper a wire from your constant to your remote input.

+1 ^^ Do this first, if the amp turns on then you either wired it wrong from the headunit, or your head units amp turn on lead is shot. Or its rare but possible that you pinched/grounded the remote wire when you put a panel or rear seat back in. Take the voltmeter and test the remote wire at the head unit, if there isnt 12volts there, then wire up your remote wire to the red ignition wire going to your radio.
