Alpine HU Install

Hey guys,

Anybody that's installed an Alpine HU in a 5th gen, did you have a problem fitting it between the metal brackets if you used the mounting cage supplied with the Alpine? I found that the cage makes it too wide, and I'm wondering if I have to just screw the brackets right onto the stereo itself (like with the stock HU) to get them to align properly. Thanks for any help.

Which dash kit are you using? If you are using the Metra one, you must use the cage, if you are using the Scosche or GXE kit, you ISO mount it (screw into the side of the radio.) If you ISO mount it, make sure you use the screws that come with the radio because if you use longer screws you will hit internal pieces of the radio and screw it up

I installed a CDA-9835 in my Max last month and I did not have any major issues with fitment.

If the holes don't line up in the factory bracket, just drill new ones. I had to do this with my Kenwood. Most aftermarket radios don't need the sleeve to fit in the factory bracket. Like someone said before, make sure you don't use long bolts to mount the unit or you'll touch the inside components of the radio.

Everyone please clarify when you post which dash kit you are talking about. Metra needs the radio's cage to mount it, but GXE and Scoscoe do not. This is the cause of everyones confusion.

Cool, that's all I needed to know. I have the metra kit now and don't like the fit, but I've got a GXE kit on the way, so I'll be directly screwing the HU into the brackets and I'm sure it'll line up better.

Thanks for the help,
Brian
