Yes, it was the same Matt you ordered with.

Rest assured I will take all advice to heart, as im not just thinking of doing this, it will be done, and I want to make sure I only do it once.

thanks for your through advice so far!
Yes its actually quite simple to mount the mids in all the stock locations. Like posted above just cut some rings from MDF preferrably round, not square like Rich said. then drop em in.

As far as the stock tweet locations, you can actually mount the tweets right to the A-pillars using HotGlue. Not the cheap craft shop stuff though. Also tape off behind the tweet to reduce possible loss of sound.

So to recap I should.....

Look at getting an Arc Audio 4150XXK, Rainbow Profivenadiums/Kickbass (does this cover the components and the rear co'ax's?), use some sound deadening material (ill be using SecondSkin), An Eclipse 5435 HU, and some minor modifications using MDF and tape, and ill be all set?

No need to feel guilty- how could you go wrong with either brand- same man designing them

But the 'given' is that you could use more power than a 50rms x4- the Ref 1000.4 is considerably more $$ than an xxk4150 and at 150rms x4 is way too much for rear fill. A 100rms x4 is the way to go IMO, unless you dont use rear fill or run it off HU power then all you need really is a 2ch.
decisions...decisions...

tell me about it. And to think that only yesterday i thought i had all this figured out!

So he designs both!!??! wow, the things you learn. I even looked at the C2K-4.0, but thats way out there in price! Not saying its no good, im sure its killer, but still. Anyway, I hope to have this settled in the next few days as im anxious to get started. Where should I look for a good price on all this stuff? Basicly, Im looking for good prices on everything (of course), but im sure the deadening material prices I can handle from the supplier. The Rainbow, Arc Audio and the Eclipse stuff I need to do some price shopping. I dont want to get burned and order something remanufactured or with no warranty, I just dont want to pay list and get laughed at, thats all.

I just wish more people would think like this. You are definately on the right track in both the products as well as sensibility.

No, you don't want to deal with that guy, he's a real PITA. (J/K)

Maxima-Ness: I just bought an amp from Don myself. As you will see if you read his feeback thread, he's a great seller. I really enjoyed doing business with him, and I'm sure I will be going through him again in the future. Highly recommended!

I can tell by what he's taught me alone that I have no worries, but thanks for the positive note there, it helps. I really am anxious to get this stuff put in. I just hope I havent tallied up a bankruptsy note here!

Yes. most competitors will tell you to set your tweets at the fartherst width of the vehicle and the sail panels are such location. This allows for a nice wide stage.
Drawback to pillar mounting is the reduction of stage width on the far side of the listener. If they are not aimed perfectly directly at each other, you'll encounter side bias (as I've noticed in a few orgers cars already) and could be an EQ nightmare. On top of that metallic tweets become unbearable in a shallow stage IMO and you have to cut some freqs

i thought i saw an orger who used a square piece and just cut a hole for the mid. isnt it hard to make an mdf spacer if you are a newb? i use the plastic spacers, saves time.

But the Metra spacers hardly ever fit right, some modification is still needed depending on the speakers...

Yeah, so I'm guessing one can buy medium density fiberboard at Home Cheapot? And just use a jigsaw or something to cut some circles out?

Yup, just sent a set out today. The MDF will cost ya about $5-6 for a 2X4 sheet.

I was feeling left out and just had to show pictures of my doors, too!

This is with about 3 layers of damping material plus some viscoelastic spray in there too (not shown). Note the Focal coaxials...they've since been replaced.

And the Dynaudio 8" midwoofer behind the stock grill (TIGHT fit):

And the finished product with the Q-Logic kick panels with some 3" Dynaudio midranges and 1" tweeters.

bump for a nice thread. Does piling on all that sound resistant material weigh the car down? good jobs btw.

I have a set of Focal Polyglass's all around and it has that same neutral european sound my sennheiser headphones have (which I like). They can handle pretty high volumes without straining, while keeping a fairly wide open soundtrage. I haven't heard Rainbows yet but with all the positive remarks I may have to when I upgrade next.

nice setup Tony- how do you like the kicks? Hows the imaging ? Wondering what's the maximum mounting depth you have on them, as I'm considering getting a pair of qkickforms to mount a 6.5" mid/midrange

I like the kicks. The imaging is quite good & with time alignment it's very good. I think I would have better results if I custom made some door panels and mounted the mids & tweets in the doors themselves though. But this is way beyond my install abilities and I don't want to pay to have someone else do it.

Mounting depth is so-so. You will have to relocate the ABS brain which is currently installed behind the driver-side kickpanel area (there's a pic on my home page). The wiring harness that leads to the brain is long enough so you can push it up under the dash and use zip ties to secure it there.

I'm not a big fan of mounting mid bass drivers in kick panels unless you can seal them up from behind. You probably won't get much in terms of mid bass with 6.5s down there as is.
