I have the same thing and my alternator was replaced less then a year ago.
I'm in the process of doing a retro kit in my car. Since HID kit uses 35w instead of 55w maybe that would help a little, but I'm not sure.
If you have a huge box, try to use a capacitor, maybe that will help. But do a reasearch on it since some people they they don't help. My friend has 3 JLs and his headlighs dimmed with a bass hit. Capacitor solved his problem.

Save your money and get a h/o alternator if you plan on keeping your car for a while

About $300. Upgrade your big 3 and see if that helps..shold only run you about $30 for the 1/0 wire & terminals @ knukonceptz.

The big 3 will definatly help. I don't know if it will totally elimnate the dimming, as i have yet to do this on my car, but i plan to very soon. A capacitor for each of your amps would probably help a lot also.

a battery (even a motorcycle or lawnmower battery) located in the trunk will eliminate your dimming, but it will probably kill your stock output alt just as soon or sooner...my stock alt is flakey, and only charges when the car is first started for about the first 5-10 min then stops, no matter what the demand for power is..I run my amps off of a marine battery thats isolated from the starting battery, and I have a 1.5 amp onboard charger I plug in whenever I park just to keep the trunk battery charged..I don't drive the max much, so I don't worry about the extra hassle..

Not true at all, not n my case anyway. I have a yellow top n my trunk, red top under the hood, no capacitors or anything yet cause i didn't think i would need them. My headlights will still dim along with my speedo cluster, with the music pumpin. I had my alt. checked and everything turned out fine with that. I think that doin the BIG 3 is gonna help me out a lot.

well, when you go to install dual batteries, you ALWAYS ALWAYS double (or more) your grounding..i've got a 2ga to body ground, an 8ga common ground to alternator chassis, a 2ga common ground to battery ground, and numerous coax braid body grounds from the battery up front, an 8ga cable connecting the 2 battery grounds together, and a 2ga ground from rear battery to body...when I put the 2nd battery in, long before my alt died, ALL my dimming went away..and I already had several of those grounds in place before i put the 2nd battery in..i had 2 cables running to the trunk, 1 4ga for my sub amp and one 8ga I no longer used (from an old amp)..Ijust moved the 8ga to the grounds for the batteries, and used the 4ga for the pos. connection between the batteries.
