JVC KD-AVX1 To get or not to get.

90% of the time I will always look the other way of JVC however I think I found something I really like.

I saw this at my local hhgregg and man I was impressed. The price isnt bad and you seem to get alot of features. I heard these on a set of infinity's and I thought I was hooked. THen I thought hmmm Alpine or Pioneer doesnt have one like this sooo I may have to compromise.

However I am worried about something, I read a review that stated that the deck can only be watched while in park mode the player has to be hooked up to your parking brake. I saw this in a review I dont know how legit the claim is, just curious.

Anyone know about this cause I may have just found what I have been searching for, for soo long.

I want something with a DVD when I go to local meets and go on trips but nothing huge like the Pioneer or Eclipse with the motorized screens cause I drive 50 miles per day atl least and I dont want to be constanly using that screen for going thru my music or using the sat radio.

MaximaPolak had this installed in his Max. IMO, it's is ugly. Get a nice flip-out screen or an all in one unit (eclipse).

I had it installed in my car. It was pretty cool and had a lot of features for the price, but it also had a lot of quirks I didn't like. I returned mine within the 30-day limit at cardomain.

Oh, and to answer your question, you can ground the parking brake wire and watch video while in motion.

The faceplate looks nice, but it's REAL bulky, and the buttons don't dim much at night, and can be really bright and annoying. To do anything in the system, you have to go through a million different menus to get to it. The remote is pretty useless, as you can't do much beyond adjust volume and change tracks.

Another thing I didn't like was that it wouldn't resume where it stopped off while playing in the middle of an mp3. It would just start it right over again at the beginning whenever you turned it back on again.

I think the last thing that bothered me was that it was incompatible with the SWI-X, meaning I would have lost my steering wheel controls.

If you can stand the above things, then it's not bad. SQ is good, construction is solid, screen is very nice, can't beat the features for the price. All my MP3s on one DVD+R was quite nice.

EDIT: Here are some photos/videos I took of it installed:

What did you replace it with? Im not too interested in paying 1000 dollars for a combo for a screen and cd/dvd player. Eclipse is just too high however i know they are the best I just couldnt stomach putting that in my car and it getting jacked. I got an alarm and everything just the price and unit attracts too much attention.

I like the JVC cause it had the screen and the dvd player plus Sirius support, and mp3 support.

I'm in the same boat as you are, as I share the exact same sentiments. I'd really like to get a Kenwood DDX7015, but like you, it's a lot of money and it's just a sitting duck waiting to be stolen, IMO.

For the time being, I'm back to stock. I'm eyeing the new Alpine DVA-9860 at the moment, and considering getting a cheap fold out screen off eBay to serve visual duty. At least with the Alpine I'll know that I can resume mp3s after the unit is turned back on and I know it will work with my steering wheel controls. That and the rotary **** on the Alpine can only help in terms of use.

Another far-fetched option I'm considering is simply setting up an in-car PC.

For the time being, it just seems that the aftermarket doesn't really have everything I want. If I could mix and match between several units I'd be happy, but of course that will never happen. The KD-AVX1 would have been perfect, IMO, had it not had several things that irked me.
