Sony XPlod XS-R1641?!?!?!?
My friend bought a set of Sony XPlod speakers, model xs-r1641. He didn't know much info about them but he was getting a sick deal so he couldn't pass it up.
What are these speakers? Is the model number a misprint? I googled it and couldn't come up with any searches.
How much are these speakers worth, and do you guys have more info on them?
Thanks in adavance.

Google gave me nothing either, but it doesnt really matter, because all you need to know is theyre sony xplod, therefore theyre not worth much and theyre still crap no matter how sick the deal was your friend got on them.
Sorry to be so harsh, but I, and most other people here, and most people in the 12 volt industry, hate sony xplod with good reason.

I bought this amp to power my 2 alpine 12"s. This amp was certified with the CEA-2006 power rating and it shows. I was planning on getting another one down the line to bridge each sub to 500 watts but I don't think I'll need to...at least for a good while. I can hardly take the bass as it is. Some of you might doubt sony's quality but their amps have always been decent. Now they have the CEA rating so don't overlook them.

Sure, Sony amps are great compared to Pyramid and Jensen ones.
I am sure certain Sony car products are decent, but I doubt you can say any of them are "excellent."
Maybe if some of that stuff was el cheapo, I would put it in my 1975 Dodge truck that I bought for $400.

damn dude, out of sheer curiosity, i typed XM-SD22X into crutchfield to see the specs and what this hype was about. That was the ONLY review on there. For all you know he could work for Sony. I can tell you for a fact, i install Sony Xplod every day thanks to cheap people who wont spend more money at Circuit City, and the amps, speakers, and subs we sell are crap. Not to mention, your "power is the key" statement is pure ignorance. How about THD and Signal to Noise, or god forbid the R&D and quality of the product itself, which Sony could use improvement. Lastly, its about time Sony got CEA compliant, because I guarantee last year they wouldve rated that 800 watt amp at like 1200 watts. If you are running the amps you said above then thats fine, but I wouldnt go around talking to car audio enthusiasts saying theyre more than they are.
Sorry if it sounds like im being a ****, but you backing up Sony got me all riled up.

What about dollar value?

Actually I'm a Alpine fan, but yes I do favor Sony televisions and other home audio. And yes, I do feel they are capable of good products. I just find it rediculous that everyones quick to flame any Sony car audio product as soon as it hits the shelf. Whether they own it or not.
I'd be willing to bet more than 90% of the idiots who think they know car audio couldn't tell the difference between a Sony amp and a Fosgate amp unless they opened the trunk. Oooohhh! There xplod! Hey dude, I knew I heard .0002% THD from that trunk. Fosgate ROCKS!!
Sorry, if I seem like a **** or better yet ignorant. HA!

I never said anything about Sony TVs. I am not an expert in home audio by a long shot, and I wouldnt question their TVs because I dont know any better. But a company making good TVs doesnt mean theyll make good car audio.

VERY TRUE i got my sonyXM460GTX for $25, but for $25 i got to say it was well worth it, no way i would of paid much more than $25 for it though
(it overheats a lot)
i got it hooked up to my alpine type r 12 it seems to do good (for what i paid for it)
the only thing i like about sony is......................................PS2-PSP
just my 2 cents (or should i say $25?)

After reading 7Eyes post a couple times I assume he was referring to me talking about Circuit City customers. I NEVER said anything about getting what you pay for. The pure fact of the matter is that Sony is one of the cheap brands we sell as compared to Kicker, Polk, Infinity, etc, not only in pricepoint but in quality of the product. This was my comparison. Is stuff like Arc Audio generally worth the money? Yes if youve got the money to spend. Would I ever spend $1000 on a JL amp from places like Sound Advice? Hell no. Not worth it.
As for flaming a Sony car audio product without owning it? Yes, because people who have been around the block will already know the general quality of the product. Its not like Sony will make Pyle-quality amps one year and Arc-quality amps the next.
From personal experience at Circuit City, yes a lot of the people won't know the difference when they look at a Sony amp versus a Fosgate amp. But that doesnt change the quality of the product.

well maybe their subs arent all bad...my friend had a xplod 12 in the back with a scosche amp, gain all the way up, and he must've been clipping the **** out that sub...but thru it all it held its own and got surprisingly loud.

I went through a xplod headunit, amp and sub before i knew any better. they all ended up breaking. the amp chewed up fuses like crazy. they display on the headunit stopped working after a few months. they sub just never worked out of the box. it wasnt the install either, because i replaced everything with better quality stuff and never had a problem.
