2 way or 3 way?

I'm in the process of redoing my front soundstage. Currently here is my equipment:
2) XXX 6.5 ~150w @2 ohms apiece
2) RF SPT-18R Tweeters ~100w @8 ohms apiece.(can I pair these to drop)?
Well, That's all...for now.
I need opinions on whether I should get some mid ranges or no. I would like to have a 3-way active system up here!
This is just example: I'd like to send 50-2khz to the XXX's, 2khz-5khz to the mids, Then the rest to the tweeters... does this sound about right?
I think would need a signal processor from HU, Then at least two amps..maybe even three??
This is my first run (rookie) at a piece-by piece system, and I'd like the answers. Also reccomended equipment for the amps and processor.
Thanks for any help provided.

Never used a 3-way system but I would think you'd want to do something like:

Low: 50-200
Mid: 200-5k
Tweet: 5k+

Not sure how to get 2ohm on those low's without bridging... or how to get 8ohms to the tweets without putting them in series on one channel.

You could run a set of standard components w/crossover on 2 channels of a 4 channel amp with a HPF of ~200hz and the low's with a LPF of ~200hz on the other 2 channels.

If you wanted to power each component seperately and lows at 2ohms would need two 4 channel amps (lows bridged on one, then tweets and mids on the other)... would probably need to get the same model/brand 4 channel amp, so that the HP/LP/Bandpass filters were similar (otherwise it might sound odd at certain frequencies).

Lots of people with exotic systems over at http://forum.sounddomain.com/, used to be a sticky there on custom component systems.

guavo, thank you! and welcome to the .Org!
I'm thinking a 2ch for the lows, as each is a 2 ohm speaker, and a 4ch for mids and up.
