Navteq vs. Teleatlas

I've been considering both the Pioneer Avic-N1 and Eclipse Avn-5435.

The pioneer uses TeleAtlas maps + routing, the eclipse uses Navteq.

I've been trying both systems to see which gives more accurate directions (punching in addresses I know how to get to, and comparing the output directions to how I would have driven). So far, the Navteq is winning. Unfortuantely, I can only test in the very limited area I live in, and was wondering how the systems compare in other areas of the country.

So I was wondering if you guys could help me out

For teleatlas navigation :

For Navteq Navigation :
http://www.mapquest.com/directions/

Punch in an address you know how to get to, and let me know which system gives more sensible directions (in your opinion).

Another Very big factor to consider is how fast the unit processes it as well as recalculates if you go off course. This would be a battle between Pioneer and Eclipse, rather than the software though. Of course the Eclipse will win, just giving more info to look into.

Yeah, very true....

In playing with both units, I definitely noticed that the Eclipse responded a lot faster, implying that it had significantly more raw processing power (albeit the maps were way uglier!). However, in my experience, the auto re-routes tend to be relatively speedy, regardless of platform. The pioneer D1 I tried routed on local streets very quickly. I suspect that the same would be true for a minor re-route, and I would guess both units can probably perform the calculation within a few seconds of each other, so I'm not putting as much weight on this issiue.

PS. I will probably call you tomorrow or wed. Don. No rush, since I have some deadlines coming up for this NASA project, and probably won't be back in Jersey for at least a few more weeks.
