If you jack up the passenger side 1/2" it should look straight once installed. But heck, at least your doing something I would never try, charge on dude...

In order to get it 100% straight I would have had to go back and start ALL over, but oh well...it looks good enough.

Ok, now time to get to the monitor! First things first, we have to saw out the faceplate. Now remember back where I had to use Tiger Hair to fill ni the gap between the mold and the air vents? Yeah, well it's back to haunt me. Take a look...

...ugh, what a mess. Buuuutttt, after some hard work, things are REALLY shaping up!

it looks liek their is quite some room between the HU and the monitor. Did you think about moving the HU up a bit and then making a space for a pocket? That way you can either store CD's or have a space in the dash for some type of EQ?
Just throwin ideas out

Uhmmm....I don't think he wants to MOVE the HU, Igor. He should just throw the pocket between the monitor and HU, but after all is said and done, there wont be much room at all for a pocket.

I would love to utilize that space but unfortunatley - there is none. Behind that gap lies the lower metal trim frame to the monitor, so while it appears as though the space COULD be used, in reality it can't.

I will have to dress it up to some degree, maybe I will have some sort of custom emblem made for the slot? I'm busy sanding away behind the monitor - it does not line up flush with the trim. I still will have to drill the holes for my pushbutton actuated LEDs later on
so I still have work to do! More pics as things develop! If you guys have any comments/suggestions, feel free to drop 'em on in - you guys may see something I don't!

I didn't even THINK about the reason why you had that space b/w HU and monitor.

I'll have some more pics tommorow, I finished up pit-filling and extending some of the edges tonight. I TRIED to extend the one side of the HU that I cut too short with tiger hair...ugh, what a mess that turned out to be. Tommorow's adventure will consist of some more pit filling and extending the edges. Basically here's what we have left:
- Pit filling and edge extending, mid section leveling (you'll see what I mean)
- Smoothing over the HU and Monitor fasica edges
- Assembling the HU and Monitor frame supports
- Drilling the six pushbutton holes (Push buttons will actuate cold cathode tubes, door handle, map pocket, and ventilation LEDs)
- Final fit testing along with any last minute touch ups
- Sanding with 150, 300, 500, 800, and 1500-grit papers
After that I am done with this project...the next step is then taking a week off from work and completing all of the items in my sig! (see below)

Lookin good Dan, keep us posted.
sorry to butt into this thread Dan, but do cold cathodes pull as much power as regular neons? i want to mount a 6 inch white neon ( little ricey...i know) under the deck in the trunk. i can't fix the damn trunk light...sucks trying to get things out of the trunk at night. so i kinda want the neon to turn on (or cold cathode) when i have the trunk open.

Alright, nothing friggin exciting here just some crappy days that set me back (can you tell I'm pissed?) Here is what has happened in the past 24 hours:
First I sanded the bejesus out of the monitor backside in order to get a nice flush fit.

You guys can expect some very tedious, boring pics for the next few posts. Now comes the boring-azz 'fine-tuning' portion where I line everything up juuuuust right.
Here we see the sides run over with body filler in order to fill all of the pits.

And now fo some Tiger Hair on the one corner I messed up

And some more on the one end

And some more on the one end
After some sanding of the previou steps and some fit testing I found that I still have some unnaceptable gaps on the sides of the HU and that the lower border of the monitor need be brought further up. So I created a backing out of some index cards and added some body filler to the areas I need to bring up.

...and that's as far as this project gets until Saturday at noon.
I have a billion things to do in the meantime and will not be able to do a damn thing to this other than add some more body filler in one last spot. Maybe then we can finally put he finish touches on it. You know, it's times like this I REALLY wish I were single!!!!!
