my votes would be with Denon,Nakamichi or McIntosh.... Nothing with mp3's since the sound is TERRIBLE and a nice face, classy style not disco light show.

I guess it depends on what you want.. buncha features that you can show off to your friends or QUALITY.. For quality you dont need flashy screen, crossover points on the deck (useless trinkets) and all those bad sounding pre-programmed sound level things (rock,Classical,Pop... you know the ones) Ally ou need is bass, mid and treble and if you have a quality system everything else is adjustable where it should be.

I sound angry... guess i am just kinda sick the hype of mp3 and flashy screens

i think being able to play mp3's is a plus because you are in your car and cd's sometimes get scratched. so you make copies and not worry about it.

I'd go for Alpine looked @ all other brands can't understand did they all fired their designers? D@mn why other brands CAN NOT afford control buttons on the left side like Alpine did?
P.S. CAR AUDIO GURU pls explane me what the signal-to-noise ratio (db) stands for?

And which brand is best for trance music.

Kenwood Excelon head units are my personal favorite, they usually have a nice medium between function such as eq's and crossovers, and cool features such as screen savers and this year they even have a g-force meter on some models. I have owned everything out there including pioneer, eclipse, panasonic, sony, jvc, clarion, but i have usually been more satisfied with Kenwood. I go through a lot of headunits since i am an installer and get bored with a unit pretty easily.

1. quite honestly on good equipment, mp3s dont sound that bad.

2. so are 4, 5, and 6 band parametric equalizers a waste? don't think so...

What would you guys recommend for a decent, low priced headunit that plays DVD's/MP3/CD, ect..

That's a ridiculous statement. MP3's do not sound TERRIBLE. FM radio and cassettes sound TERRIBLE. MP3's sound okay at 128kbps, more than decent at 256kbps and nearly (aside from test equipment and dogs) indiscernable at 320+kbps.

That said ... your NAK likely kicks some major a$$, but don't knock mp3's like the sheeple do.

Not when you're driving 500 miles . I prefer not to change my CD's while going just a little above the posted speed on I-5.

its funny you ask, im actually about to pick up a JVC arsenal series which does it all, even burnt DVD's (which is good cus i have a lot).. and another featuer called "giga-mp3" where you put mp3's on a DVD and you can play them through this player..you can fit a good 8 or 900 songs on a dvd.. good enough for me. heres what it looks like:

http://www.jvc.com/product.jsp?model...thId=52&page=1

but don't buy from there, Ebay sells them refurbed (or new? not sure) for $228 buy it now:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...Name=WDVW&rd=1

best price for a unit with all these features. the equivalent that pioneer makes is like a hundred more..

and that was way too much research for one day
