How to install a capacitor

Just wanted to make sure I had my capacitor installed correctly because it was from e-bay and didnt properly come with a manual.

Pretty much I have a 4 gauge running from my battery to the capacitor, then from the capacitor to the amp.

The ground wire goes from the capacitor, to the amp, and the amp actually grounds everything to a part on my car frame.

Do I need to do an additonal ground?

If I use a voltometer on my capacitor when the car is turned off, its at like 12 volts, should my cap be reading anything if my car is turned off? Not sure if they're is any other way to test things.

I had a brand new battery die last week, pretty fluke. Only think new really is this capacitor I installed (Because I got a new battery, I decided I'd get a 1 farad cap, for my 1000 watt amp). Anyway my battery tested fine, and my alternator was doing 13.7 so I think I"m in the clear, just trying to figure out what might be draining my battery.

When I turn my car off. The Amp cuts off after about 3-5 seconds (My capacitor has a delay). But I cant image that draining my battery excessively?

Thanks

Your power wire is correct. For ground I do it from the amp to the cap, and then from the cap to the chassis. So Im not sure about your way.

You do know that caps are simply putting more strain on your alternator, right? Im betting youd be fine with a yellow top under the hood.

I had my caps power and ground runing back to the battery...

ground, from the batt to the cap then to the amp..

same with power, from the batt to the cap to the amp..

I had nothing to the chasis..

once the car if off since the cap is running straight from the battery it takes a few minutes for the cap to drain out, so it will remain on till then..

the amp turns off sooner due to the remote wire you have from the HU. it tells it to turn off.

also I had three caps with neon ring and voltage display and never killed a battery..

uhm - you should DEFINITELY shorten your ground wires (all of them) to less than 3 feet. make sure you grind the paint off at your ground point.

Tekniq, you do know that the car's battery is grounded to the chassis too, right? Theres no point to running extra unnecessary wires, or buying them in the first place.

Thanks

I think I'm just going to sell it to a friend and be done with it. I really dont hit very hard with 3 8's and dont think I need it. I was just trying to avoid putting excessive stress on my battery (not my alternator). But I dont believe thats the case at all.

Thanks guys.

BTW I'm running a 1000 amp (@ 1 ohm) 3 JL 8W12 (round 100-105 watts each speaker @ 2.66 ohm) Not exactly a huge drain. No dimming lights.
