trunk release question.. 4th gen

So.. Ive got a 4th gen with a trunk release in the door. It woks ALL the time.. even when the ignition is OFF.. Id would LIKE it to only work when the Keys are in the ignition...

Is there an easy way?

I suppose I want to change the power source to the switch over to an Accesorry source........

anyone done this.. or know how off the top of their head? I haven't go my manual yet....

thanks

Yeah.. right now it works anytime.

It would be fun to know where the switch is getting power from. and switch it to something that is accessory-only!

I would think you could do it with a relay by cutting the wires at the switch? Do you have a system in your car? If you do, I would disconnect the switch entirely and use your remote/key to open your trunk. Having the switch working makes it easier for thieves.

You could turn on the valet switch, that way the door trunk switch doesn't work at all and you have to use your key. That's what I do, you know... just in case somebody broke into my car they couldn't get to my subs.

You see, guys.. thats the whole point.

I want the switch to WORK when the car is ON.. so if im sitting there, and my girl is like.. lemme get in the trunk... I can hit the switch.

But when the car is OFF.. the switch WONT work. . so its harder to get my subs.

Now.. Im into this relay idea. . but I don't really get how to do it! Thats not my bag, so much. Whats the 411?

I got lost after the valet switch deal. What you could do is pull out the door lock/power window switch panel. With the car on, take a test light and out of that bunch of wires find out which one is hot only when the car is switched on (most likely power window wires) be ready to splice into this wire. On the trunk switch, find out which side is the hot side. Cut that wire off the switch and tape it off. Take the spliced wire and hook it up to the trunk switch. Please fuse the connection with like a 5 amp fuse or something to be safe.

The window controls! That is genius. I will do it. . in fact......... can I just switch them????

!!! !!!

Can I??/ then I would be able to roll the windows up even thought the car is off!???!!

Are there any cons to this?
