got a new stock bose headunit, now volume is super loud.

A friend of mine gave me his old Bose headunit since mine is pretty much dead, (the display on mine is broken and it has major skipping problems). When I plugged it in and turned on the car, the volume is SUPER loud, I have the *** turned all the way down too. When this was in his car it worked perfectly. We both have identical '96 SEs. Is there a special way I need to install this? I tried turning the *** all the way up, then plugging it in and playing a CD. Once the CD starts, I turn the *** down and everything seams fine for about a second, then I hear 2 loud bass thumps and it becomes really loud again. Any ideas?

Can I have your old head unit. I need some parts to try and fix mine? I will pay for shipping + some.
Thanks.

well what I ended up doing was this;

my headunit had a skipping cd player and no display. my friends cd player was fine and display worked but had that volume problem. so I opened them both up and swapped everything fomr his except the main board to mine and vise versa. now my cd player doesnt skip and the display works.

ncalsurfer: id be happy to ship you the unit for the cost of shipping, but i dont know what you would want with it. it is now basically a unit with a skipping cd player and a non functional display with the volume stuck on high.
