Beginner Help

i have stock 99 everything at the moment. I would like to get a decent system with some good bass but without anything ridiculous. Ive looked around and read, but i still dont know exactly what to do. I know that there are better speakers than the absic pioneer ones at best buy, but i dont know much more. Im looking to spend $450 plus some if i was to get a sub to fill the bass. I really would appreciate help from some of the people on here that know their audio. Thanks

no bose-these are the things i dont really know-If i can buy 4 pioneer speakers for 250, and an amp for some more, i can do 450. But i dont know if i can do better than just the pioneer set ups. I see entry level products by cdt and jl for the same prices or a little more, but i dont know much about them. Lets say that 450 isnt strict, but not too much more. Thanks

ebay is your friend

you can get a decent system for around $450...if you buy gear used (like I did)

Pioneer Headunit $90-100
CDT Components $80-90
5-Channel Amplifier $150-$160
12" Infinity Reference 1230W sub (with enclosure) $70-75
Wiring $30-35

(prices shipped)

my set up cost me $940 (used)...actually $840 after I sell my RE XXX mids

that's risky going to ebay and getting used audio equpment. I would suggest getting equpoment new form ebay from power sellers. maybe u could start with this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/PIONEER-PREMIER-...QQcmdZViewItem
http://cgi.ebay.com/ALPINE-SPR-17LS-...QQcmdZViewItem
http://cgi.ebay.com/HIFONICS-ZEUS-ZX...QQcmdZViewItem

That's a pretty good system for what you want to spend. You can connect your stock rear speakers to the headunit and just leave them in. This setup allows you to add subs and another amp in the future if you want.

he can also try to purchase audio gear on forums...

I dont suggest for him to purchase used equipment from sellers who have little or no feedback.

I purchased many items from ebay....out of almost 100 buying transactions...I only got screwed once (PC Printer)

Ebay/Paypal also covers you if seller commits fraud

I do not use rear speakers. IMO there it is not necessarry, but if he likes them, I suggest the Pioneer REVs.

Just as risky as buying used, theres still no warranty.

get polk speakers all around...the polk/momo are the best, but any polks are nice...circuit city has a deal if you buy 2 pairs where you get the cheaper at half off, ask about that. as for decks, a lot is personal preferece, with what kind of look/controls you want...check them out at stores...decks do make a significant difference though, especially if you arnt using an amp for your speakers. you could always build a sub box and save money there, or buy one and get kicker comp 12 inch subs at circuit city...buy one get one free...i just bought them 90 bucks for each and built a box...they sound amazing, and i only have an old amp, so you dont need anything special there. but ya...its gonna be tough to do all this for 450, so i would say get deck and speakers first and deal with subs when you have more to spend, dont try to get everything now and skimp on stuff cause you will be angry about that latter, better to get quality stuff and wait longer for a complete system. good luck!
