Keeping Factory radio but want to add amps and subs.

Hey guys I'm posting this for a friend that just bought a 2002 max. Has anyone kept the factory radio (non-bose) and just added speakers, amps and subs? If so how does it sound?

I had the stock non-bose unit and changed the speakers to inexpensive Clarions. Yes it did improve the sound, way more detailed.

If you want more volume and thump you need to amp it.

Yeah, but it even sounds more cleaner if you were to use an aftermarket hu like Alpine or Eclipse.

I just recently got my subs installed with the factory bose and factory speakers. I love it its loud as hell. Weird because I had this set up in my old max and didnt even come close to how loud this is.

is there anything special you need to do to hook up the subs/amp to the head unit? or is it just as simple as with an aftermarket?
