How to get the steering wheel control to work w/aftermarket HU?

I know this has been asked before but I couldnt find it on google or have the ability to search.

I just installed a Aftermarket headunit on my 2k3 maxima and my steering wheel controls dont work. Does anyone know what I have to get in order to make it work. Is it even worth it? I heard the converter or adapter is 70 bucks without installation. any help will do. thanks

i cant seem to find the Pac adapter for the maxima, but the GM ones are showing 120 bucks.... is there a way for me to get just the trip button to work. Its stuck on MPG and I would like to change it to the temperature or DTE......

never knew getting a new Head unit would be so troublesome.

I wish I could take mine out and sell it to you. The delay and scetchy reliability due to the transmitters range suck the D. IMO, not worth the $100. Use the remote that came with the H/U.

i work with peripheral brand adapters, and i know that for most newer vehicles, and some head units, the steering wheel control interface can be done plug and play, with some prgramming. the old ones involved a IR signal, but they recently came out with ones that plug right into the back of the headunit...this would get rid of filtor1's complaint...
