New Audio installed + Question
I just ordered a pair. The reviews on ICIX are insane. One guy has two in a slot ported box and he says with only 150 watts they sound better than his 15 did at 300 watts. Another guy had them hooked up inside his house or sound lab or something and they had to turn it down because it the bass was overpowering, and that was with just ONE! I am sold on these, I should get them pretty soon. After seeing your's and wanting to loose some weight in my car I decided to get these. Sold my 2 week old system and when I went to order these last night I COULDN'T! It said they were in the "pre-production phase" Well today I gave it another shot and I was able to order them

They freaking rock dude, I want to add some tweeters to the rear and make them look like components in the rear. These *****es sound better EVERY day. I think I need a bigger amp

What did you get? Dual VC 2 or 4ohm?
Well thats the thing, I don't know which ones they are sending, the site said "buy customize" So I clicked that, added two to my cart thinking that they will update and ask which ones I wanted, but that never happened. Either way, I'll make it work well. If they send me Dual 2 ohm I'll wire them to 4 ohm then run them in series to my bridged rear channels off my amp. If they send me dual 4ohm I'll wire them down to 2 ohms and use one on each channel of my amp's rear outputs. This way I'll get 220 rms to each one regardless of how I wire it.
I would suggest against the tweeters, you want you're soundstage to be up front. The tweeters, while adding some sound will not match well with those ED's. The Ed's frequency response is 20hz - 1000hz. You will have a huge gap between that and the 6000hz+ that you'll be running through the tweeters. If you really want to have something like that I'd suggest getting it to run as a 3 way setup with a small mid raneg then an additional tweeter.
BTW, Which ones did you get dvc 4ohm or dvc 2ohm?

for your alt noise try grounding the rca.
If you note the rca should have a little wire running in the middle of it. What you do is strip that wire and secure one side to the chassis of the radio. ON the other end you strip it and create an L with the wire. You will put this L into the outer portion of the rca, then insert the rca into the amp. This cuts down on 90% of all radiated noise in a stereo, if you need a walk through on doing this hit me up and i can get more in depth. for you. Pretty easy and will show reults prior to adding the big three, i do this on every install and it works

nope, you can use it as a remote wire but in doing that your introducing current and running that right along your signal path which would increase your chances to pick up radiated noise
all power and rcas should be kept seperate to eliminate any radiated noise

i ran all my wires down one side for simplicity's sake...and have zero noises. just make sure all your grounds are good
good looking out on the link, and i look at it like this
its pretty much a standard for alternate routing, true its a personal choice; i use it due to if having worked in the past. +1 on your experience and glad it worked out, in situations where noise is radiated, he can use the methold listed above as that works

I don't think there's anything wrong with doing it, BUT its easier to run everything on one side, and IMO its piece of mind in having the good quality stuff right off the bat. (not saying that it would be worse quality stuff that would be used routing wires on opposites sides)
Yea I'll wear my safety glasses, been there done that. (Screwing my subs in from underneath the trunk to keep them from sliding around hehe)
I ordered some 6.5 mdf rings, I'm gonna see if I can't mount them on top but bolt them down from underneath then just fit the speakers into the rings. That might be easier and probably help deaden the rattling a little bit. I'm afraid that I'll hit the bose grill with them like that though.....

How tall are the rings? There seems to be a pretty good amount of clearence.
BTW, where did you get the rings from?

Yes, I think it will fit. I am about to order some
Here's who I got mine from

I'm worried about the terminals fitting through the rings though... hmm might have to modify them slightly.

I have to say I am not impressed at the moment. I don't know what it is but I can barely even hear the midbass from them. My front stage completely drowns them out. I am going to exchange my dvc 2ohm ones for 4ohm ones to see if there was anything wrong with the speakers and to see if I can wire them to my amp running bridged instead of 2ohm mono. My gain is set all the way down and right now the way it is one of the speakers makes a popping sound at certain volumes which don't even seem that high. Especially considering my pioneer's handle that power level perfectly with no popping or distortion. I wonder if the one speaker just is defective or something.
I wired it up about 4 different times using different wires, different configurations and everything. I'm thinking the speaker is just defective. One of them sounds fine the other one is really the problem. I believe the 4 ohm version is tested to give 2.8 ohms and the 2 ohm is probably going to be somewhere along the lines of 1.5 ohms.
I figure with my amp (soundstream ega 4220) even with them wired to 4 ohms I still have enough head room to power them nicely, which is why I'm going to the DVC 4ohm version if they let me, otherwise I'll ask for a refund.

We'll just have to wait and see then.... this sux, I was expecting better. A couple times I wired it the way I wanted it setup and it sounded awesome but the resistance was too low and my amp just shut off everytime the bass hit.
Thats how mine are wired except one going to each channel for a ~4 ohm load to each. I got the rings after i had already installed the speakers, but from the looks of it they *SHOULD* fit just fine.
