Mounting Frames for rear 6.5"

Mounting Frames for rear 6.5"

I'm putting some basic Clarion 6.5" in the back. The metal mounting frames that come with, do not match up with the screw holes. They are pretty flimsy and twist if i try to drill them. I know that wood frames are better.

Should I cut some frames out of maybe 1/4 plywood?

Do I have to install the speakers from the top or can I install the new frames and speakers from underneath the back deck (through the trunk)?. If I upgrade or blow a speaker I hate taking the back deck apart.

do it from the top

and make 1/2 inch MDF baffles

Won't the 1/2" MDF interfere with the installing of the rear deck?

1/2" shouldn't bother the rear deck. Plenty of clearence. Another option is to get a few sq ft of deadener and cover the hole. Cut out the center and then drill new holes in the correct spots to match the mounting holes on the speakers. Another option would be the deadener and some self taping screws.

I will be buying some MDF this weekend. What should I use to cut it to get it the proper size for the front and rear baffles?

I just used an inexpensive craftsman (sears) jig-saw. It goes through MDF like butter. If you only have a little bit to cut, even a hack-saw will have no trouble. If your building large boxes, I'd recommend a table saw or circular saw to get straighter lines.
