5th gen maxima ground points
5th gen maxima ground points
To all of you with aftermarket amps/speakers/headunits in your 5th gens: where did you ground the amp(s)? I'm having the toughest time with alternator whine in my ride. I got it mostly taken care of yesterday but now its back in full force, so I don't know what the deal is.
I've tried drilling my own spots and sanding the paint away, but that doesn't seem to work. What I thought was the solution was using an existing mounting point that goes right into the chassis but that only worked for a day.
I'm at my wit's end.
Thanks.

ive seen most 5th genners ground it on the trunk floor its self. I mean if its on the chasis you shouldnt have a problem.
how are the terminals on the wire it self? if its a little loose that can cause it as well.
how many amps are you running? do they have the same grounding point?

I have mine grounded in the trunk. You could have a good ground, but could be possibly picking up noise elsewhere. How are your signal cables? Shielded? Does your signal cables run along with the power cable? If so, this could pick up noise, too.
Currently I've tried grounding points in the trunk floor much like 2 Da Max's picture, however using new spots that I've drilled and sanded the paint away. Currently I have data/audio cables running on one side and power running on the other. As previously mentioned, I thought I had corrected the issue by grounding to a spot just above where the grounding point is in 2 Da Max's picture. That worked up until this morning when I was leaving for work; the alternator/engine whine was back and in full force.
I'll keep ttrying to locate spots, but I'm about to give up and take it to a pro and do whatever they need to do to get it to ground properly because I'm tired of dealing with it.
Though, I'm still up for suggestions from ANYONE of you. Keep the suggestions and questions coming, and thanks.

Have you rechecked that ground? Maybe something's come loose? Could it be the grounding of your HU? Long ground runs or not thick enough cable? No snags in RCA's? Check voltage/resistance at ground points to make sure it's a good one.
