Is this worth it?

I can get a Image Dynamics Idmax 12 V.3 D2 with a box for $250. Is it worth the money?

A link to the specs of the sub are here:

Cool...looking at the specs, what type of amp, generally, would you recommend (just curious since I am a real n00b with car audio)? Also, what specific amps i.e.brand/model number?

Anyone able to suggest a/an amp(s) for this setup?

Also, what changes in suggestions would you make if the box were sealed rather than ported?

I am asking because I am trying to understand the dynamics of car audio a bit, so excuse me if I am asking n00b type questions.

keep it under a thousand watts and youll be fine. You can go with any high quality amp and a sub sonic filter (You really need to know what the box is tuned to), and youll never be disappointed. Good sub and thats a great price. I would personally say a 1200d Orion and use the built in filter

Thanks for all the help guys!!! I am working on finding out the specs of the ported box, however I was also curious about which amp to use if I had the same speaker in a sealed box? The same guy has the exact same sub, but w/o a box and I was considering picking it up as well, slapping it in a sealed box to see which sound I liked better, then selling the other (for a profit of course )

Anyway, lmk what you guys think.

you could easily go with any decent amp. for starters
fosgate bd1000
fosgate power 800
orion 1200d
directed 1000
hifonics zeus
jlaudio 1000/1

you dont necessarily need that much power to get the sound you want but it will be enough to offer headroom and not drive the amp within an inch of its life.

Okay....a bit of an update guys....

I got the speaker but not the ported one. He had a sealed box as well for the other 12 and I got it and the sealed box. Soooo, I am going to go w/ the Orion 1200d amp, per suggestion here, with the sealed box and sub.

I have a few questions though.....please bear in mind I'm a complete n00b at this...

1.) The box and speaker are separate, so I will need to wire the coilovers? to the box connector, so what size wire should I use and how should I wire it? (again, assuming sealed box and Orion 1200d amp)

2.) A general question, the amp says it runs..

RMS Power at 4 Ohms 425 W x 1

RMS Power at 2 Ohms 725 W x 1

and looking at the specs from the speaker (link in my first post) it says the speakers impendence is 1/4. What does this mean in general and how will I need to setup the amp? 725 @ 2 or 425 @ 4?

Any info, help or general information about this system or amps/subs in general is much appreciated!!!

Essentially if you have an enclosure that is ported you want to tune anything below the port tuning frequency out completely (IE-Your twelve is in a 2.32 cubic foot box tuned to 32 hz (<--My specs for my armageddon), you would set the Sub Sonic Filter or SSF to 32 hz. The amp then has a boost circuit to maximize output to all frequencies ABOVE 32hz. If its below the port tuning frequency, it will cause your speaker to flutter uncontrollably and die an agonizing (Sometimes quick death)

I have a few questions though.....please bear in mind I'm a complete n00b at this...

(again, assuming sealed box and Orion 1200d amp)Personally I use 8 gauge power wire. Y? Because I had an abundance of it laying around ghetto i know but it works. I would say 10-12 youll be alright.

RMS Power at 4 Ohms 425 W x 1

What does this mean in general and how will I need to setup the amp? 725 @ 2 or 425 @ 4?It means that you have a dual 2 ohm woofer. That means that the sub has two voice coils and each is 2 ohms. In seriesing these you will raise your impedance to the 4 ohm number. In doing that you will probably never heat the amp and drive around like wondering why old ladies are outbeating you with stock chrysler pacifica stereos cranked to half. Now the beauty comes in when you bridge the sub down parrallel (Both positives tied together and both negatives) and drop the sub woofer to a one ohm load . At this point you are about to unleash 1200 ponies loose on that virgin ID magnet structure and force that woofer into submission.... sorry i was excited...

Any info, help or general information about this system or amps/subs in general is much appreciated!!!
and again
