Subs you guys could recommend if I want to run 4 subs in trunk WITHOUT SPL overkill?

These 10's look really nice and if I remember correctly they're pretty cheap. I was thinking about getting some of them a while ago. Good luck on your choice.

what you should do is instead of having 4 10's for sound quality is go with like 6-8 8" subs. I've been debating getting a few RE 8's. They don't require much airspace or power at all, only 175watts Rms. you would be able to make a smaller box and also you would be able to power 6 or 8 of them with one decent sized amp. Also i think there pretty cheap. Just throwing out ideas for ya.

eh, six to eight 8's would require the same, if not more box volume than quad 10s...

i think it'll be a huge pain already trying to 'glass four 10s, let alone glassing eight 8's (unless Dan is up to the task that is...)

hmm ok we'll take rockford fosgates P1's for example. One 10" per rockford specs requires .65cu ft. per sub. An 8" P1 only requires .25 cu ft. per sub. So...

4 10" = 2.6cu ft sealed
6 8" = 1.5cu ft
8 8" = 2.0 cu ft
10 8" = 2.5 cu ft.... and it's even smaller than 4 10's

if you need some help glassing i'll do it for ya!

I can't believe no one has mentioned RE SE's...the RL-i's that were mentioned would b a good choice, also. I've heard lots of good things about them. You have a budget? What kinda power you looking to send to them?

Midrange only in kickpanels. The 160's are more like 6's and the 170's more like 7's and with a beefier magnet/basket, right? I think the 160's will fit much easier, and like I said, they only need to go down to say 150 ish or so.

If I can swing it, I might get these drivers and the other ones I wrote you about together, pretty soon. Maybe I'll take closer measurements to see if I can get the 170's in there

I'd take the IDQ's over the ID's anyday personally. I guess everyone has their preference. I have a good bit of experience with both of them. IDQ's sound less boomy than ID's and blend much easier w/ a solid front stage.

YES. 6 EIGHTS FOR TEH WIN. I was just thinking how sweet this would look in a 'V' pattern...OOHHHH, BABY. Gettin' excited.

The new glassing project will likley be a year-long creation. It will cover the ENTIRE trunk.

well, seems like a lot of people have done the V pattern in their SUVs etc etc. I haven't seen anyone do a gradual curve with their fiberglass box and house 6 or more subs.

then again, mounting a sub on a curved surface would suck

four Peerless XLS 10" subs would fit in a 2ft³ sealed enclosure. That should give you plenty of room to go wild with your fiberglass idea

RE10's would be an awesome pick as well.

have you considered Focal? Focal makes a 5 inch sub that rocks better than anything on the market. If you set up 6 or 8 of them that would be sick. Besides do you really need that many subs? that bass will hit so hard you won't be able to enjoy the music.

focal makes some nice stuff, but as for it rocks "better than anything on the market"...have you heard every single sub on the market?

So it's either a phenomenal trunk system or an AE Body Kit...I am going to talk to Don and see what kind of $$$$ this will run me before I can conclude how realistic this will all be.

Just did. Looks like I am going to be running a 2500XKK with 4 Arc Audio 8s. I might change that to 2 Rainbow Profis, but then teh fiberglass fun is reduced.

Thanks, man! Yeah, I sound deadened to the point where my sub is not even registering! I am super-excited to be doing another fiberglassing project. Especially now that I have some experience under my belt, this project is going to be SICK. I am going to start playing with some layouts, I am not sure if I want to put all four in the rear, or aim two towards the cabin, with one on each side of the trunk.

I am likley going to (at least try) to run two arches from the top corner of the back of the trunk to the front, and mount the amps in mid-air.

Ohhhhh, the possiblities...

Just realized I haven't posted here. You can't go wrong with the Rainbows. But you know that. 4-8"s would be awesome. I really like the Alumapro 12"s that studman has as well. Just another option. And Arc all the way for juice!!!

I would love to get some Alumapros or Rainbow Vanadiums, but I just don't have the dinero for 4 of them.

Thanks! It's going to be a peicemeal assembly, with 4 or 5 peices taking up the trunk. Once I am done the overhual I am going to start this project. I am going to cut a peice of wood and use that as the floor, then just build up from there...that will garuntee all of the peices sit flush. Lotsa research still yet to be done, namley how to fabricate arches...

No need to apologize because we disagree...The IDv3 is a great sub......well maybe because you're presenting your opinions on speakers as fact and not subjective. I am far from the only one that prefers the SQ of the IDQv2 to the ID (I include members of team Image Dynamics in that statement). Yeah the ID gets louder and sounds similar....some would call it more boomy Maybe we have different tases in bass (I'm a blender). The ID certainly wins on a pricepoint competition. Hard to beat for the price. But SQ of an IDQ? nah not imo (I stress that this is my opinion, not fact, and a valid opinion) good, but not as good IMO.

Think it's just me? Here ya go. http://forum.elitecaraudio.com/showt...threadid=94802 BTW, there are some VERY EXPERIENCED competitors giving their opinions here. Are their opinions factually wrong too?

Thats cool have your opinion. They're great subs, the ID's. Better period? Well, lets make sure the newbies reading this know this isn't fact and just one persons opinion.

I would say though, check out the Arc's as others are recommending. ID makes great subs

Yes they're nice subs. There are some out there that may like the ID sound over the IDQ. Listening experiences can be enclosure/car/rest of system dependant of course as well, but yes they're nice subs.

The IDQ's will be updated real soon and the powers that be are saying it will show improvement over the Arc v.2's, but of course, that is what Image would say. There are prototypes of an IDMAX v.4 out there, but I don't know how soon they're slated for release if at all. I'm fine with the IDMAX's as they are in the v.3 and of course I don't want to have to upgrade my subs to stay "current". I do think the v.3 was a good and yes noticeable improvement over v.2 and v.1.

Me though...what I'd REALLY like to see from ID is updated IDQ 8's, which haven't been sold for some time new. Some badassed midbass drivers. I've heard a lil rumor that they may resurface what was the IDQ 8 midbass driver in a neodonium inverted magnet 8 like the prototype Mic Wallace runs in his kicks. Think Illusion ND8's with much bigger *****. Talk of new products and the release of these products are a totally different thing, but DO count on updated IDQ's coming soon.

Or how bout rereleasing the ultimate SQ sub, the IDW's.

Oh, and I'd like to see them follow through with their golden unicorn, the IDONE. Not holding my breath, though If/when it comes out, I start saving for it.

Oh, and t-shirts too. I want Image dynamics t-shirts!
